Photo Leftovers +

My Babies!!! The fawns were resting comfortably (about 20 feet from the fence) on Monday morning, when I went out to check the pool. They were so calm that they even gave me time to walk back into the house and get the camera. I should know better than to walk outside without it. The parents were nowhere to be seen, but they know their babies are safe with me.

This is part of the buffet table for last Sunday's wedding. Doesn't it make you want to dive right in??

Maybe you'd rather dive in here? Recently, my daughter took her two nephews kayaking on the Potomac near Georgetown. The scenery belies the closeness to civilization, doesn't it?

Would you like to be on the water near the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial? They enjoyed it, but they said the water was dirty.

Remember the post I wrote about a good book I read recently? The author left a cute comment on that post last night.

Quotes

*********

Nothing is illegal if one hundred businessmen decide to do it. (or maybe 100 politicians!)

Andrew Young, author, civil rights activist, US congressman, mayor, and UN ambassador (b. 1932)

*********

The latest Andr*w Y*ung in the news is the right-hand-man to former Senat*r Edw*rds, the one who claimed to be the father of Ri*lle's baby. The very one who hired me to decorate the Edw*rd's Christmas tree (in their R*leigh home) two years in a row, while the Edw*rd's were living in W*shington, DC. Is he the father? I doubt it. Did he take the blame to shield the Senat*r? Probably. I wonder how much he was paid to do that?!

*********

Journalists do not believe the lies of politicians, but they do repeat them -- which is even worse!

Michel Colucci, comedian and actor (1944-1986)

*********

Men build too many walls and not enough bridges.

Isaac Newton, philosopher and mathematician (1642-1727)

*********

I've been working for the last three days, so if I didn't get around for a visit, you know why.

I stole this from Tiff: a place to make your own tartan plaid. It's fun!!

Leftovers

My favorite trees, again. In England.

The ubiquitous and very red London telephone booths.

Blue Agapanthus (Nile lilies) growing in England.

The United States Supreme Court Building in Washington, DC. It's getting a face lift (or it could be collagen or botox)

The Eternal Flame that burns beside John F. Kennedy's grave site.

The Dome of the US Capitol Building, at sunset.

Blogger is being a bear tonight. I wanted the photos marching down the left so I could put captions under them, but Noooooooooo can do!

From left to right and top to bottom, they are as follows:

The entrance to the cemetery
John Kennedy's grave plaque
Jackie Kennedy Onassis' plaque
Robert F. Kennedy's plaque
The Air Force Memorial (3 curved spires)
The USS Maine Memorial
The Maine Anchor
The Mast from the Maine
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
A view of Washington, DC from the hill where the Eternal Flame is.

As always, click to embiggen.

They don't look their ages, do they? (And the hair is not dyed!)

The side entrance to the club.

I don't want to put the name on the blog, but if you click to enlarge, you may be able to read it on the steps.
Edit: I noticed you can't really see it, so I'll tell you. It's Gen. P*traeus.

The Officer's swimming pool, as seen from the reception room.

Gettin' Historified

The Four "J's". My grandchildren on a trip to Washington, DC.
I think we're pretty lucky that none of them fell into that "cement pond"!
