Get It While It's Hot!

You might have noticed I haven't posted anything but puns and jokes for the last two or three days. It's been hotter than Hell in August and it has washed any energy I might have had right out of me. While I'm not an authority on the temperature of Hell, I think I can speak to it - after two straight weeks of high nineties and dew points to match.

We went out to dinner on Saturday night. There is a newish Italian restaurant in Wake Forest called Il Bacio, (the kiss), and we were invited to try it with our friends, who have been there often and think it is great. The chef and his family are from Sicily, so the food is authentic. I had calamari for my appetizer, and the portion was enough for 2 or 3 people. Since mr. kenju wouldn't eat squid if it were the very last food available on earth, I ate the whole thing (or most of it) by myself. I then proceeded to eat a plate of lobster ravioli (photo above) and part of a beautiful salad. It was prudent of me to forgo dessert and stick with coffee, since I was so stuffed I could hardly draw breath.

We got there at 6:10 pm and we didn't leave until after 8:30, proving that our friends were very interesting ! They are good conversationalists, and like hundreds (nay thousands) around here, they are transplanted New Yorkers, who are happy to be out of the traffic and troubles that abound in that part of the world. They also knew half of the people dining there that night, and people kept stopping by our table to say hello.

On Sunday, the neighborhood had our annual picnic. In the past, it has been held in both May and September, and I am going to lobby for going back to spring or fall, instead of high summer. We had tents, and we didn't start until 5:30 pm, but it was still too hot and humid to be out for long. The food was good though!! Hot dogs and fried chicken and all manner of conceivable accompaniments were available. It was another night of stuffing our faces. It would behoove us to fast for the next three days, or at least consume much less quantity than we have recently. If only I could convince mr. kenju of the beauty of that.

I have a decade reunion for my high school coming up in August, and I had wanted to trim down a bit before that. No such luck. I guess I'll move that goal out to 2013, when our next class reunion is. Trouble is, there is about as much chance of it happening then as it is now.

My neighbor called today saying that her computer was driving her so crazy she was about to toss it out the window, and asked "Are you good with computers?" I answered that I would try, so I went over to see her. Her computer is a Mac, and I had to tell her I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot-pole. The only other time I tried to check my email on someone's Mac, I couldn't make head nor tails of it. I know that those of you who are Mac lovers will tell me I'm all wrong, but don't preach to this choir. I'd need lessons for years!

My computer isn't exactly a shining star at present, and I am about to seek semi-professional help - (so Tullie - get ready!) It keeps telling me that it needs more memory, so I keep doing what little I know to do to achieve that, and it isn't helping. GAH!

What wonderful looking and sounding food! It all sounds so different from what I cook in the Mr and Mrs G household!

Ands that temp sounds way too hot for me! I'm dying of heat here and its only 24C (quick look at my conversion table - 75F

But then I am suffering very badly from hay fever as well. :(

I have both and while there are a few differences... it isn't that hard to move from one to the other. But, I do love the Mac and don't miss those sudden freezes that always, always happen with the PC.

Stephen gets here Thursday and it looks like he brings the cool temperatures with him... high yesterday here was 99 with 69% humidity.... Thursday... 83. But, he will be more able to help with my to do list this way... that residual pile of mulch I have in the driveway.

I usually stick with just 2 courses now but lean towards desserts rather than starters. Actually a starter and a dessert would probably suit me better. We both seem to go for lighter meals now.
I think my computer problem is sorted thanks to my brilliant fellow bloggers. And thanks Judy for trying to help.

Sounds like you need an additional or NEW hard drive to put all your pictures on. I just did that yesterday. I bought a 500 gig and then someone told me it should have been the terabyte one. Oh well.

Try shoving Ginko Biloba in the disk drive.
Thanks, just hearing about your meals have filled me up. Won't have to cook today and yes it is too hot. We have been in the hundred plus catagory and are delighted to be facing some low nineties. Whee.

Sounds like a weekend of good eatin'! It's been hotter than Hades here, too. Blech.

I am betting you could have fixed her computer if it had been a pc. You and I both have struggled with so many computer errors we could probably qualify as tech support in some instances.

The food looks and sounds fantastic. My mother-in-law was from Sicily, but not an exceptionally great cook. My husband to this day turns green at the sight of spaghetti with tomato sauce and will not abide an onion near his plate.

Heat and humidity just kill me. That was one of the main reasons for me leaving Texas.

The high for us today was 67 degrees, absolutely perfect for me. That's with the sun shining.

Oh Judy...I could no ,ore stand that Heat/Humisity than Fly to the Moon with no Wings...! I can understand why you would lobby for moving the Picnic to the Fall...Besides it being a bit cooler for the people, It would probably be better for the life of the food...lol! Things spoil so easily in that kind of HEAT...!

I could use some more memory too. Not the computer, me.

I am playing catch-up after my week gallivanting! I had Elly look at my laptop while I was down and she tweaked a couple of things for me.
