Wham Bam!

We had a doozy of a storm last night. The power flickered off and on several times, the rain was torrential and the lightning and thunder were epic. And then......we heard a loud boom. I didn't know until this morning, when I went out to check the pool skimmer, that this tree had fallen. It appears to have been struck by lightning, since the trunk is badly splintered.

As it fell, it took several limbs off a second tree, and skimmed the bark off another.

A slightly closer view of the trunk that splintered. when we left the neighborhood this morning, we saw limbs down and a few trees in three other yards. Since we moved here 29 years ago, we have lost more than 20 trees, but luckily we still have many more, and it didn't hit anything important on the way down.

You've had quite a summer, haven't you. Between the heat and the storms...always glad for safety and no damage. It is sad to lose the trees, though.

A bit too close for comfort Judy.

Want to borrow my saw? About every second year one of the trees in our woods comes down in a storm; but, at the moment, they are all taken care of so if you need the saw....
Sorry for the loss of your tree.

What happens to the dead limbs? does Mr Kenju chop 'em up for firewood?

I think we had some portion of that storm here too, Judy.

It was so bad the other day I spent most of the day resetting clocks because every couple of hours we would have a power failure that lasted from between 10minutes to an hour.

Just long enough to knock out the electronic equipment in your house but the electric stove kept coming back so I still had to cook dinner.

It is a good thing that the tree did not harm your house in any way....Nature can certainly have a fierce way about it---The Storm sounds Epoch!!
It is wonderful that you still have so very mamny trees surround ing you, dear Judy...It almost looks forest-like in the pictures you post....

These storms are going to kill us Judy. We've had so many...and I'm sure we're not done. Your tree scene looks VERY familiar....we have had whole trees and huge branches down all over town during a few of these storms. I'm surprised we have any trees standing at all. I still get a little 'ooged-out' when I hear a scary crackle of lightening. ~Joy

That was some storm! It was felt in Toronto too. I was at an amusement park. A lot of people got caught outside and were absolutely drenched. Fortunately I was inside when the rain hit. We had a little thunder and lightening but nothing too close. Poor old tree. I feel sorry for them when they get blasted.

It is always sad to lose a tree, but thankfully it did no serious damage. Stay safe.

Oops - I need the saw. I just found that a huge old black walnut tree in our woods had one of its two large branches broken off by the wind - about 15 feet above ground level. You and I can now get our exercise. *smiling*
