Want Some Advice?

There was a lesson to be learned today, and I think I did well. Gold is selling at a very high premium these days. Someone mentioned to me recently that if I had any old jewelry to sell, I might want to consider doing it soon.

Typical procrastinator that I am, I waited at least a month to see what I had that I might rid myself of and make some cash in the doing. I found six pieces that I seldom, if ever, wear and today I took them to a jewelry store. I had only been in this store once before, but they had a sign on the door saying they were buying, so I went in. They checked the gold content and weighed the pieces, and offered me what I considered at be a decent, but somewhat disappointing amount.

I called mr. kenju and reported the amount, after which he said "Why don't you think about it overnight?" I realized that he had a good point, so I decided to go to a few more jewelry shops to see what they would offer.

All totaled, I went to four shops. The range of amounts they offered me varied by $310. I was SOOOOO happy that I had decided to "shop around."

If you want to turn some old jewelry into ready cash - be sure to get offers from more than one! The rate for gold today was $1,832.00 per ounce. I didn't have quite that much; however I'm pleased with what I did have!

Note:  that is not my photo or my jewelry.

Thanks for that advice. I need to gather some up to see what I would get.

I bought Ella a little necklace and bracelet for her birthday. They didn't have anything in the store, so I ordered from a catalog. The price in the catalog was one thing, but the actual price was another because of the price of gold going up.

I told the kids they could keep it for investment for Ella.

How smart of you and how smart of Mr. Kenju....! I don't really have a lot of Jewelry and whatever I have has such great sentimental valus that I wouldn't want to part with any of it. Too bad, but, that is the way it is....

That must be about the only good news on the financial front these days.

Thanks. I too have some old stuff that I have been considering. Wonderful advice.
Think there is an old song about "You'd better shop around" Now that will be in my head the rest of the day.

The price of gold has been way up lately. In this case, procrastinating probably worked in your favour!

Just for once the US is a little behind the UK and that lesson has been learned over here. Except by me who can't be ----d.

I have so little jewelry. My husband thinks spending money on jewelry is a waste of money and I have not ever been a person who craves jewelry..so my gold wouldn't amount to much.

My daughter (in the antique business) says you really have to know who you're dealing with when it comes to gold. I'm so glad you shopped around, Judy.

Hmmm, maybe I should rummage through my jewelry box and see what I can find. I pretty much wear the same jewelry every day...I might not even remember some things that I have just sitting around. Thanks Judy....

Just my luck. My carpet installers stole my gold jewelry 2 years ago.
