Some of you may remember my complaints about not being able to post comments on some blogs. I really hate it when I read a good post and can't add my two cents worth to the comments. If your comments box looks like the one below, I am NOT able to leave a comment for you.
Click to enlarge! When I first discovered that problem with Arkansas Patti, who writes "The New Sixty", she played around with her settings and found the one that will allow me to comment to my heart's content. Here is the email she sent:
Hi Judy, This is what I got from the net when you and I were struggling. Under comment settings, where it asks for "form placement," I selected "full page." For good measure I also removed "word verification". Not sure which worked but my helpful guy on the net thinks that "full page" is the answer. If I start getting spam, I will put the word verification back up but I notice a lot of people don't use it. |
After Patti selected "full page" for form placement, I was able to comment easily. Below is the way it looks now:

I am not sure what the problem is, but it seems to be related to my use of Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
So, if your comments box looks like the first pic above - now you know why you never get comments from me - unless I switch to IE for that purpose. I have done that, but I hate doing it, because using IE on my computer is really the pits!!
If you don't want to bother changing your settings just for me - so be it. Just know that I am reading often.

This is strange... I use firefox or safari and I have commented without difficulty on the first type. It does have that choice thing... that says "comment as" and then a pull down menu next to it. Those have different profiles... the blogger or blogspot profile is really the google profile choice. Perhaps if you run into another one like this you should choose the google profile and use that... It is the same thing as the "choose an identity" on the full page model.
Now I'm wondering if i should go back to word verification because I get so much spam and spend ages deleting and then deleting again and emptying recycle bin?
I think I'm OK.....If you ever have an issue, email because my blog is a stumbling adventure every day.
I have the same problem with comment boxes like the first one pictured. I write out a comment, and it vanishes...bummer.
And it just occurred to me that I am signed in as my cat, but really, it's me, Thumper...
I use Firefox only. I don't have trouble with comments very often, but do run into it occasionally for a few days - even with those I can otherwise comment on. If I get too frustrated, I look for their email address, and if they have one, I use that.
I have the same problem and have been having it for months. Something changed, I did find that if I select Google and am viewing in IE it will work for me. If I view some blogs in Firefox I also lose my post!
That happened to me for a time too (on the first example). Several days went by and then, it finally worked, so I don't know what happened. It is frustrating, though, isn't it?
I had issues with a blog like that too. I tried to comment all day long and never got anything to post until I changed the drop down menu to something different and used only a google log in.
I wonder if it was halo-scan or js-kit commenting system. I go to a couple of blogs that have them and I set up an "open id," which is my blog url. But everytime I comment I have to log into open id & with a password. It's a pain, and takes some getting used to.
Funny you mentioned that, because last night I spent hours playing around with a commenting system called instensedebate (dot com). In the end I didn't install it, but it sure seems neat! I'd like to see somebody else try it out.
Its just the computer gods or goblins testing your patience Judy.
Those problems are with 'Blogger' Blogs
In the example if you click on the drop down list and use Name/URL you can use your blog name and the URL which is your blog address.
I have a WordPress blog and hate when I am only allowed comment with a Blogger ID.
I'm going away to see what I have which might not be helping you!
Sure hope it works for those bloggers where you can't leave commnets.
I see many alternatives offered that probably work as well. Good luck.
I knew you were out there but it is so much nicer hearing from you now.
Thanks for sticking with it till we figured it out.
I have the kind where you seem to be unable to leave comments, how strange, you are the first one I hear telling us that. I use Firefox and google chrome.
Have you tried commenting with Name/URL or as Anonymous?? it's just that I thought of that, but it's nice to know you have been reading my little site :)
I haven't encountered that first screen format in quite a while. I think a lot of people must have switched.
I'm so glad you brought this to our attention. I had mine at full page and suddenly it went to the other way, as if Blogger changed it for me.
I am changing it back!!!
With Haloscan, I'm hoping there's no issue.
My latest big issue is Blogger not posting up my most recent entry so it looks like I've haven't written anything in a couple of days. Hitting 'refresh' brings up the things i JUST wrote...weird, huh?
I have the same problem Judy. However I found an answer. I write my comment, choose Google on the drop down menu and then try to post it. It won't work. But if I "Preview" my comment before I try to get it to print...for some reason it will work
I am having a heck of a time with internet explorer and have switched to firefox which has a set of different problems. But, i haven't had any problems leaving comments.
What is happening on this end is that I can't open my own blog without a pop up showing up to tell me that the "search" has been aborted. Then, I'm booted off! I don't have a clue why this is happening.
firefox?? I can't download/upload the necessary stuff to have Youtube etc usable.
grrrrrr.........
