This show was one of my all-time favorites. When the powers-that-be decided to cancel it, I was one of the thousands of people who wrote to the network in support of keeping the show. This is the letter I got in response. I doubt it would be worth anything because the signatures (although real) were copied.

Two years later, I got this postcard from the show. Below is the reverse side. I don't know why the scanner didn't copy the postmark. It was December 13, 1989.
Have you ever written to a network in support of a TV show?

That's just so neat! I forgot about that show.
No, but I wrote some fan letters as a kid. My first fan letter was to Mickey Rivers of the Yankees (later Dodgers). I had such a crush on him. I liked how fast he ran the bases.
Thanks for sharing this. It's so sweet.
Not recently, but I do miss Men in Trees, although it had fallen into iffy scripts. The writer's strike brought them down, I think. I'd still be watching Northern Exposure and the Sopranos if I could.
No, but my daughter shares a birthday with Carol Burnett, and sent her a card. Carol (we're on a first name basis now, of course) replied with a very nice letter. My daughter was thrilled.
Probably in my head if not on paper. Great that your letter was effective and what a nice reaction from the cast. I don't know the programme - wish I did.
I once wrote to Emma Thompson suggesting a film her hucband (then) Ken Branagh should make for her. Lovely letter back but it didn't hap0pen
I caught a rerun of that at the gym the other day. What a great show. Do you watch Jean Smart on "Amanda Who" now?
No, I haven't. I'm not a TV person really. I admire people who write letters to keep shows on that they like.
That's neat. I never have written a letter like that, but I should have.
A few months ago I had my grout cleaned by the Groutsmith...what a wonderful job they did. I should have written a letter! Maybe I'll do that now.
My word verification is "boopuu," maybe getting ready for Halloween.
Never written to a network - I woudlnt' have thought it could be sucessful!
Loved that show too.
If I wrote to every show I'd ever loved that got canceled, I'd still be writing letters today (IOW, I would have never caught up). Every show I've held remote interest in has gone belly up in no time flat. That's why I don't really talk about Survivor much. Once CBS gets wind that *I* like it, *poof*, it'll be gone. LOL.
No, but if CSI leaves I might have to. I am upset about the Gil character leaving, Warrick getting bumped off and then there is Sarah....
I LOVED that show. My friends told me I reminded them of Dixie Carter's character, Julia. I WISH! She ruled! Everytime I hear the Supremes doing "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," I think of the episode where the ladies lip-synched that.
I am so proud that you managed to keep Designing Women on the air a little longer. I loved that show until they got all caught up in Delta Burke's weight gain and everyone was at war.
Someday I'll have to try writing such a letter now that I know they really do some good.
What great memento's Judy...! I am so impressed that you saved these things, and still have them.
I once write to a daytime Soap Opera because I was so upset when they killed off a certain character. It was back around 1959and I had been stricken with Mononucleosis and all I could do was lay there and watch daytime TV....and got terribly hooked on this show called "From These Roots"....LOL! Oh Lord!
But it was a very very good show!
As an aside on your love of Designing Women....One of the Weddings I "officiated" at waaay back, (1990) was Annie Potts a her then Fiance Jim Hayman....! It was a HUGE Wedding--Held at Sunset in Malibu at a large Estate that they had rented just for the Wedding. It was reallt lovely and lots of fun, too!
