Blogger is being a bear tonight. I wanted the photos marching down the left so I could put captions under them, but Noooooooooo can do!

From left to right and top to bottom, they are as follows:

The entrance to the cemetery
John Kennedy's grave plaque
Jackie Kennedy Onassis' plaque
Robert F. Kennedy's plaque
The Air Force Memorial (3 curved spires)
The USS Maine Memorial
The Maine Anchor
The Mast from the Maine
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
A view of Washington, DC from the hill where the Eternal Flame is.

As always, click to embiggen.

nice photos--it's been a long time since I've been to Arlington. I've been having problems with blogger since I got back, couldn't get my blog to open and had to remove sitemeter (I learned that from the help discussion group).

I always love seeing pictures of Washington, and I love that you have these WONDERFUL pictures from Arlington...It is an awesome experience to be there, isn't it? So very moving. In fact, I always found all the Monuments very moving...The first time I saw The Lincoln Memorial, I burst into tears!

We didn't get out of the car; mr. kenju's handicapped plaque allowed us to drive through the cemetery, which was a blessing in the 95* heat!! Had I been on foot, I would have taken photos of some of the individual headstones. Miss kenju took the ones of the grave markers that I posted.

Washington D.C. is another place on my *must visit* list.
Ted E has been there but I didn't get a chance to go because his visit was work related.

Judy,

Did you ever see a film called "Gardens of Stone"? It was made in 1987,directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and starred James Caan, Anjelica Huston and James Earl Jones.

It tells the story of the Honor Guard who do the burials at Arlington Cemetary and guard the Tomb of the Unknowns.

It is a wonderful picture, almost a documentary, and tells how the Honor Guards are selected to serve at Arlington and how they carry out their duties.

We learned a lot about Arlington from that film...

Nancy, I haven't seen the movie, but one of mr. kenju's cousins was once in that Honor Guard.

I'll look for that DVD; thanks!

Hi.

When my wife and I were in Washington a few years back, I wanted to get to Arlington, but we couldn't squeeze it in. (We had to be on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for a wedding.)

Thanks for the photos.

(Not here via Michele, but on my own.)

Cheers.

That must be a very moving place to visit. All the shock and horror it evokes but it looks so peaceful now. Let's hope they are all at peace.
