All I Wanna' Do Is.......

Maybe it's the heat, but it seems that all I want to do lately is sleep and eat (and blog). I went to bed Friday night about 1am and slept until 8am, and took a nap Saturday afternoon that lasted 4 hours! I was appalled when I woke up and looked at the clock! It was time to start dinner. I had all sorts of plans for cleaning the house, but they fell through. It could be I need a little caffeine to jolt me awake.

The temperature has hovered around 95-100* for the last 4-5 days, with some days having high humidity and others not so bad in that respect. I used to be able to not only survive the heat, but thrive in it - but no more. Apparently when you reach a certain age, your thermostat decides it cannot be controlled anymore. At least that is my experience with it. How about you?

In less than 3 weeks, I will meet many of the people in my birth family. I cannot tell you how surreal it makes me feel. My birth mother is being given a surprise birthday party and my family and I are invited. Only Mr. kenju and Miss kenju will accompany me; we are told there will be some of my birth father's siblings and their children - my cousins - there. I have met my birth mother, and one of her adopted children, but no one else in the family. I am not sure how nervous I will be, but if the way I feel now is any indication, I will shake, rattle and roll. I don't know if they are aware I will be there, but I hope that some of them will bring photos of my father when he was young. I have only seen one of him, and it was too dark to make out much detail. Can you imagine how strange this is? To be meeting family members at this age is really odd. I am at once excited - and scared. Wish me well.

Wednesday is our 44th anniversary. I had no idea when we married that it would last this long, and there have been many days when that was not a sure thing - but we have persevered through thin and thick and thin again - and I really think we'll make it to 50 years, if we live long enough.

The vagaries of the internet and this practice of blogging we find ourselves in can bring good surprises - and welcome ones - to our inboxes. I got a very nice email from a woman named Jessica, who had found my blog while searching for information on a brass doorknob in the shape of a hand. I happened to have it on my blog recently (it came to me in an email, as it did to her). She stayed to read a while and sent a nice email with links to things she thought I might enjoy. Indeed I did! She has introduced me to this artist/woodworker, who makes the most interesting works of art - which also happen to be useful. His name is John Cederquist, and you should go*gle him and see his fabulous works. I had to skip around a bit to several links, as none of them seemed to have more than one photo.

Another thing she sent was the link to this photo of an amazing arch of books in Paris. And her own flickr photos are wonderful, especially her quilts. Enjoy!

I hope to meet my birth mother this summer - not sure if my sister will be able to make it. I also hope you'll have time to meet some of us around here, too.

Happy early Anniversary!

My heart goes out to you as you go to meet your birth family. Having been on the other side of the adoption experience, it makes me wonder if I'll ever have to guts to arrange a similar meeting.

*hugs*

We don't get enough warm days in the Pacific Northwest to really judge how I deal with the heat, but it hit 91 degrees yesterday, and I know I couldn't get to sleeep before 1:00 A.M., and woke up at 7:30 this morning, exhausted. Of course, I've never dealt well with the heat, so I can't blame it on old age.

A four hour nap...that sounds absolutely divine - I haven't been sleeping well so I'm a little envious.
I'll be sending sweet thoughts your way for the meeting with your birth family, you're right...it's sounds a bit surreal.

Hey Judy - good luck with the family reunion....

Michele sent me to say that my tolerance to heat is non-existent now, but as a child I would always be running around in a pair of shorts...
I'm with you, it must be age.

I'm with you on the heat requiring naps. It's always best to put off housework for any reason.

Bless you on your bravery to go meet lost relatives. They are going to love you and you just might find them enjoyable.

Happy, happy 44th anniversary! For a treat you and Mr. Kenju should take the 1930's husband/wife test. There's a link to it on my blog that I copied from OGO. I failed the test and was actually quite proud that I did.

I'll be thinking of you - both as you meet your family, and on Tuesday! Cheers to 44 years! I'm old enough at this point that it could be hard to make a marriage last that long, but I hope to hav the opportunity to try.

OOPS! I got my anniversary day wrong - but I changed it. Wednesday, July 2nd is the day. I guess after that many years, it doesn't matter any more than a hill of beans, as my mom would say.

I have been napping more these days as well. NOT 4 hours, but more like 40 minutes. It just seems whatever I do outside for a couple of hours drains me for the rest of the day. I am sure it has something to do with aging. Happiest of Anniversaries!!

Judy,

Good luck to you when you are meeting the family.

I'm sure they will love you. Better still, I hope you love them.

Congratulations on 44 years of marital bliss. I know it wasn't easy, but I'm sure it was worth all the effort you and your husband put into it.

Congratulations to you and Mr. Kenju on the occasion of your 44th anniversary. That's a long time, isn't it...and I do hope you make it to your 50th.

I hope the weather breaks for you soon and you get some rain.

It's been miserably hot here too and all I want to do is float in the pool. Congratulations on being married for 44 years. How wonderful. I hope you have a joyful time with your birth family.

Came by from Femail Doc's site. fascinating that you are meeting your birth family and what that must mean go you. I am completely hooked on how that will go for you.

Re your comment on overheating, yes when I hit the menopause, my temperature went haywire. I don't get night sweats but I overheat from time to time. I could happily live in the North Pole and still be hot.

You surely have a lot going on. Congratulations on you 44th. And I wish you well meeting all your family. How exciting. As for the housework, it is my experience that no one else will do it for you, so don't feel guilty about napping. THe work will be there when you get to it.

Oh, my! I can understand how nervous you must be to meet your birth family! Wow. I get nervous just anticipating meeting my real family, when a long time goes by without a visit. :-)

Best wishes. My thoughts are with you.

Happy Anniversary!

I think it's great that you get to meet your birth family. There are still people in my own family I've barely seen in my 48 years.

And yes, the heat is getting to me this year. I believe it's because of the surgery I had last year. I almost feel drugged on the really hot days.

Many congratulations Judy to both of you. Nobody said it was easy- and they got that right:)

Yes, yes me too! I was never great with heat and now...well, now it's just awful. I actually wilt. I don't feel like doing anything. And, of course, I live where it's pretty sunny much of the year.

But wait -- I don't feel as though I'm old enough to have thermostat issues. I'm only 37 -- wah!!
