Ephemera ~ Old Tobacco Ads

It doesn't strike me as being politically or medically correct, but this dad of twins certainly looked happy to be blowing smoke rings, even if the twins were bawling their heads off! Could it be they didn't like the smell of his tobacco? Mr. kenju has smoked some in the past that I compared to dirty, sweaty athletic socks.....EW! But he has some that smells of cherry and bourbon and other good stuff - and that I don't mind so much.

Maybe Midnight Flake refers to the personality of the dad, not the name of the tobacco.

It is so NOT P.C. for me to write this but one of my favorite childhood memories while growing up was when my dad would blow smoke rings from his pipe and I would put my tiny wrist through them like they were bracelet.

*of course, maybe that is why I smoked later in life. Dont tell anyone. Hehehe. I have not smoked in 14 years. WOW. :)

LOL! Good one!

To be smiling so broadly at midnight, (with crying twins, no less) makes me wonder if he had had a few too many at the pub! He's more cheerful about midnight feedings than I ever was.

LOL, LOL, LOL...Very funny Judy...I think you are right about the name....! Wasn't it just horrific, the Ads that they used to lure us into smoking....? I remember some Cigarette Ads that actually said that THEIR Cigarette was GOOD for you! Talk about "truth in advertising"....! Help!

Smoking, blah, such a filthy habit, I know I did it for over 20 yrs..thankfully stopped 3.5 yrs ago, yay me!...But I know exacty what u speak of, about that certain tobacco smell of cherry and brandy...I always liked that aroma when I smelled it coming from some man's pipe.

When I was a kid I liked the aroma of a good pipe - it reminded me of three or four adults that I respected who smoke pipes.
I am not sure I would feel the same today with all the health issues for everybody tobacco causes.

I love this one. I want to get it framed for my husband, who has spent many an evening (pipeless, though) up with our baby.

It is just the same old story...false promises of the vendor:)

At times my grandfather would smoked a pipe. I remember the scent of cherry and bourbon among others. I like the smell of a pipe. I know I am not politically correct. Those smells take me back to my carefree days of childhood.

They'd never get away with that today would they? That's an interesting old ad....kind of cool really....but definitely not PC by today's standards.

My father-in-law had some cool smelling pipe tobacco. I can still remember the aroma drifting through the house.

I love that ad--maybe because I come from a family of tobacco farmers. I wish the governor would send me a Christmas Card

Oh how funny... it's almost as if the ad is lauding the addictive quality of the tobacco.

My aunt married a GI in the forties and I used to love his cherry smelling tobacco - so different to the acrid pong of my Grandad's pipe.

There really is nothing like fresh pipe tobacco. I love that smell.

I like your comment about Midnight Flake referring to the DAD, not the tobacco.
Funny!
I guess years ago people thought nothing about blowing smoke into the faces of newborn babies and toddlers... all their growing up years.

I'd never seen that ad for tobacco before, Judy. It's a hoot.
