Trip Notes, Three

Until I went back to my home town last week, I had no idea that they had slot machines or casinos. I always enjoy the process of losing a little money in a slot machine or two, and my friend, with whom I stayed loves it too. She and my daughter and I went to the casino on Saturday night. I didn't lose any money this time, and I even won a little - but my lucky daughter - who always wins something - won $1,054! Why couldn't that have been me???

I got something else while I was there......smoker's throat. There were soooo many people smoking that it was impossible to escape it, and after I had been there 15 minutes, I felt as if I had taken up smoking again (after 28 years of being a non-smoker.) I tried hard to find a machine that didn't have two smokers on either side, and several times I had to move to another machine in order to escape it. Tell me......is there a no smoking casino anywhere in the world? I sure would patronize one, if it exists!
***********
This was my second day back at work after a six-week hiatus, and I worked 10 hours and 10 minutes! Mel (my boss) has 2 huge weddings and a 50th anniversary party tomorrow. I did 4 flower girl halos (head wreaths), 33 corsages (10 of them wristlets), 38 boutonnieres and 11 arrangements! Two other women, and Mel, worked all day long on all types of centerpieces, altar arrangements and other stuff. I go back at 9am tomorrow. Right now, I am going to run a bathtub full of the hottest water I can muster and soak in it for at least 30 minutes. See you later......
maybe.

I don't gamble, but I enjoy watching people in casinos... but heavy smoke bothers me more now than in the past.

Judy, you're going to have to come to Canada. Smoking is banned in all bars, casinos and bingo halls :)

I love to sit at slot machines and because of that we only go once a yr on my bday (I seem to be lucky then) and if we are on vacation somewhere that has a casino, other then that I stay AWAY lol. Luckily in Canada, there is no smoking allowed..although I quit 3.5 yrs ago, I never liked much smoke in my face as a smoker...I am just very thankful that now bars, casinos and resturants don't allow it anymore...

Joe visited his mom in Bethany Beach NJ this week. He likes to hit the toy store and get a present for me. Along with a light powered top, he bought a lucky Shamrock scratch ticket for me. By the time he came home he forgot where he bought it, tried to give it to me, I couldn't be bothered scratching it, so he did. It looked like a BIG winner. He convinced himself. I didn't trust it and read the back and discovered it was a joke. He fooled himself pretty good. Easy come, easy go, I said.

Ooh, a bath would have been nice a few hours ago, when I was a little bit awake - unfortunately that was about when I got home tonight and I REALLY needed dinner. Hope you have a nice soak!

I'm here from Michele's, today.

You had quite a heavy-duty work day Judy...And I'm guessing tomorrow will be pretty much the same....Hope it ALL goes well.

I have thought many times that some truly enterprising anf dorward looking person could make a FORTUNE with a Hotel/Casino that was completely smoke-free! If I could go..I would! And I'm sure a lot of other people would too!

Ten hours working mostly on your feet I bet. I hope the Brides & their families appreciated all the work involved.

Enjoy the soak!

In Australia, people are no longer allowed to smoke in clubs and pubs, which I think is a good thing...

And wow, what a day!

Here from Michele's this evening, with a sad L asleep beside me...

Living in a clean-air state has me spoiled. It always takes me back a bit when I go into a restaurant and am asked if I prefer smoking or non-smoking.

You really jumped into your work with both feet, er hands, didn't you. I would be soaking too. Might drown.

Oh my!!!!! Is that a way to welcome a girl back? Hugs!!!

Is that Mountaineer, Judy? Haven't been down there in a couple years. I'm not much of a gambler.

I understand your dislike for smoke- I have dealt with it my whole life (both my parents & former in-laws are/were heavy smokers- as are most of my friends) I deal with it but still hate it at the same time.
What a wonderfully creative job you have- I wish mine was so creative - though at least it pays the bills.

Girl, you been busy! That little gal of yours is one lucky ducky. Sorry you got smoked out at the slots. :(

Have a groovy weekend!

What wouldn't I give to win $1000 right now? Hey, I think I'll go buy a lottery ticket!

I agree about the smoky casinos. Many of them now have a "non-smoking section"...but that is kind of like sectioning off a part of a swimming pool and saying: "no peeing at this end"....!

Congrats to your daughter!

I'm not much on casinos but sure enjoyed them when I was young. The smoke has a lot to do with it, but I do enjoy the casino restaurants. The new high-end Las Vegas hotels have these incredible air purifying systems and you can smell very little smoke.

Ah, put photos of your flower work again. I enjoy seeing them.

Harrah's New Orleans has a no smoking room, just for you. ;-)

I imagine if casinos banned smoking, they figure they'd lose out on the addictive types. And those are the folks who keep them in the money making business, to be sure.

I remember when the dog track in Cross Lanes opened way back when. We thought it was decadence defined. My husband won money every single time, while I mostly sat and drank vodka tonics. And smoked! Last time I saw that place, I felt like I'd entered a different world. Crazy!

Wow - smokers throat is a painful thing. Yet another reason I choose not to gamble. The other being that I never win anyway :)

10 hours - sounds like my day at one job. Then when the season starts up, I'll run across the street and put in a few more hours there before I go home. This week I've not made it home before 11pm any night, but it's mostly because I've not wanted to be there. And thank you for the offer...If some random chick wanders into your flower shop...that's me taking you up on your offer :) (Ok, so I won't do THAT....but it sounds more fun!)

You're a terrific worker, and Mel is lucky to have you.

We have a casino with a no-smoking section. It's pretty good, but of course the smoke from the rest of the casino (where two-thirds of the people are smoking) eventually rolls in. Someday, ALL places will be non-smoking. Good for people like you (and me, too, come to think of it).

If you were at the Tri-State track and didn't look me up, I will have to spank you! LOL. I played the slots there years ago and won $40... I'd rather have the $1000. :-)

When we lived in Colorado we went to Central City, oh well, we did not walk into any casino, but boy, that was crowded, we took our kids along and preferred to tour the old houses.
