Mr. kenju was watching Letters from Iwo Jima on DVD. I set it up for him and then went upstairs to the computer, since I have no interest in war films.

I was just starting to get into a new blog post, and I heard "This thing is driving me crazy - can you come down here and fix it?"

So, I went downstairs, and his problem is that since the film is in Japanese (at least the first part is), there are subtitles marching across the screen. Trouble was, there were double subtitles. I keep the captions on the TV all the time, because I don't always catch everything said. Otherwise, the TV volume would have to be so loud that the neighbors could hear it. But that's not the funny part.

I turned off the captions for him, so that there would only be one set, and then he said....

"Turn it up."

I started laughing..... because why would the volume need to be louder if he doesn't understand a word of Japanese anyway? Can you read it better if the volume is louder?

Men! Sometimes they don't make a lick of sense (as my grandmother might have said).

Edit: He liked the movie; but he didn't tell me much about it since he was on his way to bed.

I saw "Dance With Me", starring Chayanne, Vanessa Williams, Kris Kristofferson, and Joan Plowright, surprisingly enough. If you like to watch people dance, you might enjoy this one, even though the plot is a little predictable. I can say one thing - Chayanne is extremely easy on the eyes - and Vanessa ain't half-bad either......LOL! I was surprised to see how well she could dance.

Hi Judy. I can't say I disagree with you there: men are indeed confusing, vexing figures. I know that my wife, who is an educated, rational, intelligent woman, is often reduced to a forlorn head shake when I pull one of my semi-regular sillies.

It's a guy thing, I guess :)

Hope you had a greay week. I'm looking forward to catching up.

Incidentally, LFIJ was written by Paul Haggis, a native of my little burg. He's a major hero to the local paper because the editors have nothing else to write about.

Judy, My son helped solve my TV volumne problem(I have some hearing loss). He installed a portable auxillary speaker that I can keep by my spot on the sofa. It helps out a lot especially with a show like "The Sopranos" with the thick accents.

Is that like turning the radio down when you're looking for an address or just the opposite? Yeah, men don't have a lick of sense.

Similar but different.....Steve was helping me with bills. I had him put the stamps on the envelopes...they were and have been for ages, self sticking. He tore one off and fiddled with it for a bit and then said, "Wanna tell me rosemary how I am supposed to make these stupid things stick?" I showed him.

Turn it up - sounds like something my DH would say, too. I was just commenting to my daughter about how quiet it is in the house without the boys around. (my son is visiting grandma, and my husband is on a busniess trip), and she replied, "Yeah, boys are LOUD!"

HAHAHAHAHA! That is so cute!

My husband woke me up from a dead sleep because hecouldn't get the remote to change channels... I still laugh about it (he thought I was pretending! lol!)

Have a great weekend - and hello from Michele! :-D

My husband use to blast the tv all the time. I could hear it upstairs in my bedroom...from his office on the first floor.

I saw 'Dance With Me' too...was pleasantly surprised.

I love the comments! I leave captions on all the time too. If I don't, I miss some dialogue.

I went with some friends to see "The Barber of Seville" last year over in St. Petersburg. I got a listening device. I don't know why because I didn't understand the words anyway. I told my friends that it was translated into English for me through the headphones. I got the last laugh. It wasn't, of course. We were too far back from the captions for me to be able to read them.

Sometimes I can't hear the subtitles either. And DVD players still confuse me a little.

Mike

Oh... Michele sent me.

LOL, LOL....This is very funny....!
BTW: I LOVED "Letters From Iwo Jima"...yes, it is a war film, but so powerful. It is filled with such humanity...I really think Clint Eastwood did a magnificent job...Did Mr. Kenju like the film, after he got passed the CC?
