Rudolph, I Think You're Lost

While walking into my dining room recently, I spotted movement through the window, and saw this guy, foraging close to the house for something green to nibble. By the time I grabbed the camera, he had moved toward the street, and watched me take his photo. The next night, I saw a buck with a medium rack of antlers, just standing on the corner of my neighbor's yard. They are getting braver every day.

On Friday, when a misty, cold rain fell all day, I stood at my kitchen window and watched 4 or 5 deer in the woods beyond our deck fence. They were alternately foraging and reclining and at one point, I saw 2 of them licking the rain off each others faces. It was the sweetest, most loving thing I had seen for many a moon.

What a wonderful sight that must have been. There are two big bucks that walk through our yard once or twice a month. They have quite a presence and stature.

Oh my, they are getting braver, aren't they. But they are so cute. I had friends who lived in a woodsy subdivision in Cincinnati, although densely populated, who had deer get into their garden. They were not happy.

How perfect for Christmas. Maybe Rudolph is checking to see if you've been naughty or nice. I hope next time you see him he's pulling a sleigh full of everything you want!

Our heavy snow has brought out all the deer that foraged at the edge of the woods. They are in the fields at dawn and clear to see against the white ground.

I watch the deer every morning out the slider as Steve feeds them. They are tardy leaving for the lake. But we have had weird weather so they are probably confused...easy to do.

True beauty is in the eye of the beholder Judy.

Did any of them have a sleigh nearby? ;)

I imagine they are looking for food, daring to come so near humans. But so lovely to see!

Have a really good Christmas!

scenes like you describe make me want to take them in and provide food and warmth during winter. i can hardly stand to go east in november when the hunters are killing them. :(
