World's Largest Swimming Pool?

If you like doing laps in the swimming pool, you might want to stock up on the energy drinks before diving in to this one. It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, had a 115 ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water. The Guinness Book of Records named the vast pool beside the sea in Chile as the biggest in the world. But if you fancy splashing out on one of your own - and you have the space to accommodate it - then beware: This one took five years to build, cost nearl y ??1billion and the annual maintenance bill will be ??2million. The man-made saltwater lagoon has been attracting huge crowds to the San Alfonso del Mar resort at Algarrobo, on Chile's southern coast, since it opened last month. Its turquoise waters are so crystal clear that you can see the bottom even in the deep end. It dwarfs the world's second biggest pool, the Orthlieb - nicknamed the Big Splash - in Morocco , which is a mere 150 yards long and 100 yards wide. An Olympic size pool measures some 50 yards by 25 yards.Chile 's monster pool uses a computer- controlled suction and filtration system to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, drawing it in from the ocean at one end and pumping it out at the other. The sun warms the water to 26c, nine degrees warmer than the adjoining sea. Chilean biochemist Fernando Fischmann, whose Crystal Lagoons Corporation designed the pool, said advanced engineering meant his company could build "an impressive artificial paradise" even in inhospitable areas.

Thanks to some of you for asking how I'm feeling. I am better, but it seems the symptoms of this flu don't want to leave. I still have a bad headache, nasal drip and congestion, and tomorrow it has been a week since I got sick. I was supposed to take a friend out for her birthday luncheon tomorrow and I cancelled it. That's unheard of for me; you know I am really feeling poorly if I don't want to go out for lunch!
Our clothes washer is biting the dust. Saturday I put in a load of wash and then discovered a puddle of water under the machine. It is 22 years old, so there's no point in trying to fix it. We just bought a dryer last year, and I will add a new washer tomorrow. I checked the Sunday ads, and luckily, there's one on sale.
Most of Raleigh got 3 inches of rain tonight. After suffering a really bad drought for over a year, we are making up for lost time, and I am truly grateful.

Wow, that is one giant pool!!!! It's really beautiful and I think I want the job of pool maintance woman...

Sorry to hear that you are feeling poorly. If you can get someone to go to the health food store for you, tell them to get you some "Olive Leaf". It will help clear up that congestion. It has worked for my family and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Also try to eat some garlic every day. I know that sounds, YEK! but it will kill germs. Good Luck

Judy,

Maybe this story will cheer you up a little and make you smile.

A visitor from Ireland went to the biggest bar in Texas. The bar had 300 stools and 22 bartenders. As he took his seat on one of the stools, the bartender said,"Welcome to Texas. Home of the biggest bar in the World."

He ordered a beer and the glass was so big it held two quarts of beer. The bartender said, "This is the biggest beer in Texas at the biggest bar."

After drinking all that beer the visitor had to use the Men's room and asked where it was. The bartender told him to go down this long hall and go in the first door on the left.

The Irishman got confused and took the first door on the right by mistake and landed in the swimming pool. As he was thrashing around in the water he kept yelling," Don't Flush, don't flush."

Hey, Judy, I'm sorry you are still under the weather. The creeping crud that has been going around since January is really, really hard to get rid of. Be sure to see a doc if it lingers.

That is a giant pool! I'm sure glad it's not mine.

Love those kissing balls!

I drove by it last February, kenju!!! isn't that fun?? I spent the day with friends in Algarrobo, which is about an hour away from Santiago, the capital, and learned about it.

Hope you feel better soon .

Sorry for your dripping nose and washing maachine. You're sure it's not the drain screen?
Lemon and ginger and keep off cloggy animal products. You know all this but we often don't bother for ourselves. Love.

The rain is nice for a change though I wasn't so happy when I came out of Wal-mart last night and got soaked. We sure do need the rain tho. I hope your new washer lasts as long as this last one did, Judy.

I hope you feel better soon. It's horrible when that crud hangs on like that.

What an incredible pool. That's remarkable..

I hope you're soon feeling better. One of these days my washer is going to give out too, or my refrigerator. I don't know which one will go first. I'd love a new refrigerator. Mine right now is almond, while my appliances are bisque...well, they're close.

I love your blog setup now. Did Anna do that for you? Is it hard to do?

The deep end of that pool scares me. 115 FEET? For what?

Sorry to hear you're still not feeling well. Sending best wishes for a speedy return to full health!

I wouldn't have to make nearly as many laps in that pool! I'm glad you're feeling better and hope you fully recover soon.

Don't have time to read all your post, but gather this is the pool you've installed in your backyard. Nice! But isn't it a bit large?

About your washer, am having the same problem with mine -- puddles on the floor -- sorry to learn that means I probably need to buy a new one.

But, as for you, why will you need a new washer when you have such a big pool and all that water -- think of the environment and conserve.
