Did You Know?

1. The closest spiral galaxy to our Milky Way galaxy is Andromeda and even traveling at the speed of light it would take 2 million years to reach it.

2. There are 100 billion galaxies that we can observe. The prediction is that there are much more, but the Hubble Space Telescope could not detect them.

3. Eagles, like all birds, have color vision. An eagle's eye is almost as large as a human's, but its sharpness is at least four times that of a person with perfect vision. The eagle can probably identify a rabbit moving almost a mile away. That means an eagle flying at an altitude of 1000 feet over open country could spot prey over an area of almost 3 square miles from a fixed position.

4. When frogs hibernate, their bones grow a layer, like trees do. You can tell the age of a frog by looking at a cross-section of its bone and counting the rings.

5. If you peel a banana from the bottom, you won't have to pick off the little strings. That's how primates do it.

6. When you want steak to be cooked rare but don't want to have to cut it in half; when you assume it is done push on it lightly and then push on your cheek. If it feels just like your cheek, it is perfect. (Y'all try this and let me know, m'kay?)

7. To keep from spreading diseases and insect pests, sterilize old flower pots by soaking them in a solution of one part bleach to nine parts water.

I am still having trouble commenting on quite a few blogs and my followers list has disappeared and won't come back. I did install a blog roll again, and now it won't let me change the size of the font (it is too large for the blog roll.)  It's always something!

I am having no troubles with Blogger so this must be your PC, your browser, your connection or something like that! I know, that is absolutely NO HELP AT ALL.

When I was a kid I wanted to be an astrophysicist because I found the mysteries of space so enticing. Then I figured out you have to live in an observatory in the middle of the desert (to get away from light pollution) and only work at night, so I changed my plans.

Dad said he read something about cutting bananas apart helping them to last longer. Of course at the rate he eats them, it really doesn't matter... he inhales them.

1 and 2 makes one wonder how we can possibly feel so self important.
Gonna have to try the banana thing. I'm obviously not as smart as a monkey not to have figured it out.

Love the banana idea and can't wait to try it out. I hate those strings. Now about the cheek thing. My cheek changes in texture with every pound I gain and every pound I lose. Right now my cheeks are very plump and mushy -- both kind of my cheeks:)

I always peel bananas from the bottom and it's true - no bitter strings!

A nice listing of interesting tidbits. I especially love learning about the vastness and wonders of the universe. It's mind boggling how much we don't know.

I couldn't leave a comment this am because I was bounced off line.
I must try the banana trick.

On type size of Blogger items--have you gone into advanced settings and changed fonts? Might work.

KGMom, thanks for the visit. I did go into advanced settings, but even though I've changed the font size 4-5 times, it somehow doesn't "stick".
