Odds & Ends

Poor butterfly.....gasping her last breath on a hot downtown street. I saw her Saturday as I walked to the Convention Center from the nearby parking deck. She nearly broke my heart because I couldn't so anything to help her.

Below: another of the many butterflies I've seen this summer.....one of these days I'll manage a photo without a hose in the background. When I went out on the deck this morning, I saw a doe with two small fawns in the woods. They posed perfectly, but my camera was in the house (darn it!)

Snoop Dogg....my new Grand Dog. He's 3 1/2 months old and weighs 3 1/2 pounds. He's a tiny bundle of energy, but slept on a pillow beside me after exploring my house for the first time.

My previous doctor moved her office after I became her patient and an appointment to see her became a forty mile round trip instead of twelve. After doing that for 2-3 years, I decided to change doctors so that I could see someone in the same practice as mr. kenju, which is a short 5 miles away. This morning was my first appointment with the new doc and I am very pleased that I made the switch. She's personable, pretty, professional and she speaks loudly enough for me to hear her easily.  My former doctor was wonderful, but she spoke so quietly that I had to ask her to repeat nearly everything she said unless she was looking right at me when she spoke - and she knew I had a hearing problem.

The best thing about this switch is that instead of seeing the doc every four months (as with the previous doctor), I will only have to go in every six months - unless there are big changes in my health. I love that! She said I was the perfect patient - basically healthy and up-to-date in all my tests and shots. At my age, that's high praise, I think.

This year really has been a bumper crop of butterflies hasn't it.
Soooo glad your new doctor worked out so well. It is so hard to find a good one these days that when you do, you either want to marry them or adopt them, which ever case works.

A beautiful tiger swallowtail. I am hoping to gather up all the remaining Monarch and Black Swallowtail caterpillars from the remains of my milkweed and fennel and take them to the botanical garden butterfly garden.... here at least, they stand a chance at making it to butterflies. I have run out of food for them.

So many bloggers are getting lovely pictures of butterflies. I went out the other day determined to take some beautiful photos as well. Slim, however, believes when I look closely at something it needs to be chased away. Perhaps she fears I will bring it home and replace her.

Almost all of our doctors are still in Tulsa and that is a 160 mile round trip jaunt. We are very attached to our Cardiologist and our PCP but we're going to have to start making some changes. We both dread leaving our PCP because we feel like we have helped raise her.

I am thrilled with your glowing report of a successful change. It gives me hope.

Snoop Dogg is such a sweetie! You seem to ahev such an abundance of wildlife in your back yard and I always love it when you share pictures and stories of it. Fancy having deer at the bottom of your garden!

Keep up the good work Judy.

We had very few butterflies in the garden this summer. Mind you, the rain in July and August would not encourage them. May was a warm month here and they fluttered about to their hearts content.

Excellent to get a good, likeable doctor nearby. It is hard to find one and in our area more and more are not taking Medicare patients. I got a great new one when my old one moved away. She too is personable and professional. I told her I was going to adopt her and she blew me away when she told me, she was a grandmother too. She must take her own advice she looks so good.

Beautiful swallowtails you have there. Always a treat to see them, bit sad when they are at the end of their lives.

Finding a good doctor close by is a really great thing. I'm not having very good luck finding someone I'm happy with.

I was seeing my doctor every six months (and I'd stretch it to nine) until he decided to take me off of one of my meds. Now, he wants to see me every three months, at least for a while, and he says he MEANS it when he says three months. Yessir. I'll be glad to get back to my own schedule.

Beautiful picture - similar to the one I posted. I noticed my butterfly had a small section out of her wing.

From butterflys to Doctors ... that really is "Odds & Ends" but I'm glad you made a positive change and are in good health.

Oh, those butterfly pictures are beautiful, but as always, summer must come to an end eventually.

That's a good move Judy. At present we are going to Taunton two or three times a week - 50 odd miles round trip for medical reasons.
Life gets tedious don't it?

It's always such a relief when you have to find a new doctor...that they turn out to be really nice and easy to talk to. I think that's important to everyone. So glad you really like her.

Beautiful butterfuly...

Great shots of the butterflies. I've seen a lot of those swallowtail butterflies in my garden and also on walks lately. Maybe you'll get another shot at photographing the deer. Good one of your dog.

I know what a drag it is to have long drives to doctors. That's great you found one you like close by.

I think that's the best thing about amateur nature photography - the amazing confluence of events that every once in a while puts you in a position to take that picture... you know, the one without the hose wrapped around the butterfly ;)
