After running errands today, I went to Wendy's and got lunch and parked at the back of their lot so I could read while I ate my chicken sandwich. The weather was so gorgeous that I rolled down all the windows and reveled in the warm breezes; ate my lunch and was thoroughly entranced by my book. That's why I didn't notice the truck parked behind me (blocking me in) until I was ready to leave. I can't believe I didn't hear it pull up behind me, but I forgot to wear my hearing aids - so maybe that was why.
Can you imagine how ticked off I was? He pulled up beside the dumpster, and the long metal trailer attached to his truck was behind my car - and so close that it was impossible to get out of there. I pondered my options; I wanted to go into Wendy's and yell at the top of my lungs (and believe you me, I can generate a lot of decibels)...."What kind of idiot blocks a woman's car in the parking lot while she is in it???!!!" I also wanted to write a nasty note and put it into the cab of the truck, but I didn't. If the truck had a business name on the side, I would have called them to report the idiot driving that truck - but it was blank. I was fuming....but trying not to boil over.
Luckily, a nice bunch of guys came back to their landscaping truck parked two spaces down from me and spied my predicament. The driver backed out of his space so that with about a dozen three-point maneuvers, I was able to get around that truck and out of the parking lot. Probably, the guy driving that truck was so oblivious that he never even knew my car was there. At least I hope so.

The Farmer's Market was overflowing with people, plants, vegetables, fruits and cars today. I hadn't been there since last year, and I love going there to get good bargains and people-watch. I bought 14 ears of silver queen corn for $5 and 4 huge Better Boy tomatoes for $1.25 per pound. And the herbs! Basil was $2 per bunch and the bunch was more than a handful and had to have been a foot across. It would die before I could use it all - so I'll give some away. I'm going to make my special roasted tomatoes today, so I needed large tomatoes that I could slice thickly, and fresh basil. It will go well with the marinated pork chops, fresh corn and grilled potato packets, don't you think?

Isn't it grand when the air is just right?
You did well not to blow a gasket with that clot's parking.
I love tomato salad. Do you add garlic?
Our tomatoes are just starting to come in from the garden. The cherry tomatoes have been the popcorn and now a few paste tomatoes are ripe. I slice them and sprinkle salt, sugar, add whatever herbs I feel like...sometimes Parmisian and then broil them. I then freeze them for winter sauces. They are a pungent reminder during the cold winter days.
Did I miss dinner? It sounded delicious!
Having some hunky landscape fellows come to my rescue might take away the sting of the fellow blocking you in. What could that jerk have been thinking?
We are starting to get some roadside vegetable vendors but their prices are pretty high right now. We saw a dozen ears of sweet corn for sale at $8 a dozen. Yikes.
Those times are when you wish you had a $50.00 car so you could ram them a few times.
Pretty sure I would have done the decible thing.
Some people really are oblivious, but thank God for those landscaping guys...otherwise you would have had to go inside to see if you could find that jerk. Glad it turned out okay, and hope it didn't ruin what was a nice and relaxing lunch.
Oh, you've made me hungry! Sounds wonderful.
On being parked-in: Boo. You are a better person than I am. I'm pretty sure I would have gone inside and complained.
wow, glad those guys helped you out! I am ready for tomatoes to be ripe and for a big tomato sandwich.
You are too nice. I would just have to find that guy and give him a piece of my mind. All's well though, and you didn't have to get into any unpleasantness.
Yes, it sounds wonderful!!
We went to the botanical garden and did the butterfly garden and the enchanted forest where they have built ingenious little play houses for kids based on fairy tales and poems. Lots and lots of things for them to do.... very, very, very nice weather.... but the hot is coming back.
Hope the rest of the 4th holidays go more smoothly for you -- truck driver must not have been very observant, so be glad he didn't run over your car with you in it.
One of the very best things about living downtown here in Charleston is easy access to the wonderful Capitol Market. I'm there four times a week, at a minimum. Love love love a good Farmer's Market, and I know Raleigh's got a great one!
