Helpful Hints

Do not pump your mascara tube; it forces air down into the mascara,
causing it to dry out faster and not go on as smoothly.

Acetone nail polish remover will revive an old marker pen when it
dries up. Just dip the tip in the acetone and recap.

Remove candle wax from clothing or linens by putting them in the
freezer. Once the wax is frozen it will allow it to flake off easily.

Batteries lose their juice in the cold, so keep a spare set close by
when out photographing in the winter.

Ice-proof your car windows with vinegar. Fill a spray bottle with
three parts vinegar to one part water and spray it on your windows
at night. In the morning, they'll be clear of an icy mess because
vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of water -
preventing it from freezing.

To keep ceiling fan blades from collecting dust, use furniture polish
on them.

Perk up soggy lettuce by soaking it in cold water with some lemon
juice. Store it in a zip bag with paper toweling to absorb moisture.

Before wearing a new garment, put a dab of clear nail polish on the
back of each button, and they will stay on longer.

Place fresh mint around your food or outdoor dinner table to keep
flies off the food.

The easiest way to cook sausages on the grill is to stick them with
metal skewers, making turning them quite easy.

Great hints and I will try a few. I love it when we find an easy and cheap way to solve a problem.

Where are you when I need you? I got tar on the bottom of my shoe at the weekend.
I always kept a piece of coal by the sink for when I washed the lettuce. Even if it didn't crisp up the lettuce it was a talking point when all else failed:)

I especially appreciate the mint tip as flies on at the picnic table are so, so very annoying.

I will have to try the fan blade.... I wish they had a hint to change the direction of the fan blades that bypasses the heavy ladder. If only.... I know they have controls for this that will do it from the wall, but if we had them then the fan blades would never get cleaned.... so... heavy ladder, here we come.

Thanks for some great tips. Thank goodness I don't need the one about vinegar on the windows, though. ;-)

Blimey that's a lot of effort for a soggy lettuce! :D It would be quicker to go to the supermarket and buy a new one!
