Touring Our Art Museum

My favorite things at the new art museum building are the water lilies! They never disappoint, like the restaurant does - not because the food is bad - it isn't - but because it is very hard to get reservations!

My blog friend Ginnie, and her friend Mara came to Raleigh on Thursday so we could tour the museum and have lunch. There were no reservations available (and a 90 minute wait, with no guarantees) so we toured, and left the museum grounds to eat at Brio - always a good choice.

A decorative arts cabinet of some sort. The paintings on the cabinet doors and drawers are exquisite. Unfortunately, there was a tour group in that area, and I didn't get to see what it was for or who painted it. Maybe next time.

These are in the Judaica galleries. I don't know what they were used for either, but they are beautiful!

This is Psyche; Cupid will have to wait for the next tour.

Here, blogger has gone nuts and will not let me move this photo, so I have no idea how close the copy will be to the photo. It is a spice holder (the info follows) and the filagree detail is gorgeous.

The shadow on the wall here is almost more interesting than the hanging silver object (and I don't know what it is used for (also from the Judaica Galleries.)

Info on this one below. Can anyone tell me why this classifies as art?

This is Ginnie (who blogs at Goldendaze) behind the Rhyton
(see below).

I love this angel, but didn't get any info on her.

Hope you enjoyed this tour. There is yet another set of photos waiting to be uploaded.

All very interesting. There seems to be a great variety of "art"...including the one you want to know why it is considred 'art'. I'd like to see that piece 'in person' to get a better idea of the scope of it---it looks HUGE---and to get a closer look at the surface of it. It looks very interesting to me---What makes it art? Good Question, Judy.
What a nice way to spend an afternoon! Too bad the Restaurant is so popular...lol!

That tour round was really interesting! No, I don't know what those strange objects are, either!

That tree thing is rather odd! Was it a tree first or what??? If nature made all that lovely bark-looking effect, then I don't think much of the artist!

Or maybe I am being rather harsh!

Some beautiful stuff Judy. I was intriqued by those things in the Judaica galleries....lovely. That 'piece' you asked about being classified as 'art'....I don't have a clue either; nothing that really appeals to me.

Happy weekend dear friend... ~Joy

Hi Judy: We did have a nice time, didn't we? and it was fun to have my friend Mara with us. She really enjoyed it. I didn't take many pictures but I do have one of that strange tree with a person in it so it shows how HUGE it is. I will post them on Monday. All the best to Mr. Kenju!
