Odds and Ends

Click to enlarge - I hope.

This gal had the audacity to swim in my pool last night, and I found her this morning with her babies hanging on her back. As strong as my tendency is to smash them, I gently lifted her out of the water (with a net) and placed her in the woods behind the deck.

My deer - and I do think of them as "mine" now - having a bit of a liedown (as the English would say) in the back yard. The four of them have been in that exact spot for five days in a row, so I guess that is their home. I feel privileged! Click to enlarge.

If you are reading this, it means I didn't get home from work in time to write much of a new post. I will be working for the next 2 days, so visiting will be sparse.

I got the shingles vaccine today. I tried to get mr. kenju to come with me and get his too. Do you know what he said? "How big is the needle?" (with fear and trepidation in his voice.)

What a scaredy-cat he is! (and the needle was teensy, or the pharmacist was good at doing it. )

I have not yet got that shot...maybe I will try another time.

LOL. How big is the needle? Big enough!

It's a guy thing, I think. Yesterday the Spouse Thingy--who sticks people with all kinds of things on a routine basis--wanted Lidocaine before he got an IV.

It's not like they're gonna shoot you with bullets, guys...

I'm having a tough time this evening seeing some photos on blogs. I think it's Blogger - up to its old tricks.

My husband doesn't mind shots - he had plenty in the military. But if it was an optional thing, he'd probably say "No." LOL.

It's not how big the needle is, it's where they put it!

Better to get the shingles shot than to get the shingles. The prick from the needle is nothing like having the shingles.

I saw a friend suffer from the shingles for months, that's what prompted me to go for it!

Good that you got it.

Don't work too hard! I didn't even know there was a shingles vaccine or anything, like who should get it and why...looks like I have some googling to do!

That was nice of you to let the spider go free. Since you've adopted the deer, you're going to have to think of some names.

I also did not know there was a vaccine for shingles. I know quite a few people who have suffered with them.

No, no. no, no. No spiders with babies in the pool. Not good. And no more needles today, thanks- although a shingles vaccine sounds like a very smart move. I've known too may our age, especially men, who have gotten shingles and it is one miserable nasty painful experience. Push harder on the Mr.

Tiff, the shot goes into the back of your arm. I haven't had any symptoms of a reaction and no itching or anything. YAY!

And yes, shingles is a very painful and long-lasting problem. I had it once and I would do most anything to keep from getting it again. One tiny shot cannot compare to 3 months of nerve pain and intense itching.

My brother has trouble getting his blood drawn. When he was younger he had to have a lab test and fainted... he woke up on an exam table in an OB/Gyn office that was across from the drawing station. Very red face as he left through the room of pregnant moms to be. I wish I could have been there.

Heck!!!! I don't get flu shots.

I love deer -- I know they can be a pain but they are so quiet a seem peaceful.

I save spiders too :)

How cool to have your own deer, that is awesome.

Glad you got the shot maybe Mr. K will go next time.

How lovely to have deer making their home so near you!

I didn't know you could get shingles vaccine? I've had shingles and really, really do not want it again. I still get pain from where it was. It may be a ghost pain but it is very much with me!

"Treading on eggshells" is the word for today here! I could weep.

Well, I'm afraid the pictures don't get bigger...at least not on my computer...I would love to see that Deer closer-up....!

I didn't know they had a Shibgles Shot....Interesting!

"SHINGLES"...Lord...I am sorry about my one finger typing...! LOL!
I did think it was funny that Mr. Kenju was worried about the size of the needle, but I know that there are many people who have a dreaded fear of needles..Big Or Little!

I didn't know there was a vaccine. MTL had it twice.

I'm glad you didn't smash the spider. They are good little critters.

I am so proud of you for saving the spider. I don't care to sleep with them but could never hurt one in need of rescue, especially a mother.
I guess if you have ever had chickenpox you are a candidate for shingles. Smart move.

Suffering with a brown recluse spider bite kind of takes the edge off spider sympathy.

Let us know if you have a reaction to the shingles shot. We have really been tempted.

Yes, the deer the rest at the back of our property are called OUR deer too.

I learned something yesterday! My 83 yr old aunt came to stay and following a conversation on hospital visits and tests, she told be about a shot she had at the hospital the other day. A very slim lady with little spare flesh, she was not over fond of needles.

The nurse who was to administer the shot into a buttock told my aunt to bend her knee 90° on that side. It totally relaxes the leg and she felt nothing!

Thanks for not smashing Charlotte.
