The Farmer's Market ~ June 2009

What's your tomato preference? Sliced fresh or fried green? I like both!

Potted roses in many colors everywhere you look!

Old-fashioned cleome. My mom grew this when I was in grade school. The foliage reminds me of marijuana (which I've only seen in photos.....lol).

A squash blossom? The vendor needed something to fill in the middle, didn't she?

Patty pan squash. We ate miniatures (babies) of these years ago at Fearrington House. They were no bigger than a quarter (and about as tasty).

Coral impatiens; to grow in shade.

Cacti, for full sun. These are for you, Naomi and Rick!

Gerbera daisies in sunny colors!

More cacti for Naomi and Rick.

Sorry it's turned on its side. This tall cactus is about to bloom! I think I should go back and see it when it opens, don't you? Naomi, what variety is this?

Even more cacti!

Tiny ornamental peppers.

Magenta petunias and variegated sweet potato plant.

The Market's restaurant has murals of farm life (above and below)

Anne, Pam and Rocio (who says she can't take our 93* heat - and she was born in Costa Rica!!)

Pam, Rocio, me, Pat, Caprice, Jan (not showing) and Tish. We had a great lunch of fresh vegetables cooked southern-style!

Could I have fried green tomatoes please? I've always fancied them and never had them. I think it is an American thing.
It looks a jolly place and a fun day. I have a thing about impatiens - maybe its because they are so profuse.

Now, are these ladies bloggers too?
I prefer the red... on potato bread with nice crispy bacon and mayo. .... yum... great summer supper!

No, SRP, no bloggers there. All are my neighbors, except Pam. She lives 3 miles away, but she's an Honorary neighbor!

Oh those tomatoes are unbelievable. I love green fried tomatoes. There was a restaurant where I used to live that had them on the menu. I never missed an opportunity to have them when I was there.

Our farmers market is a far cry from yours. It is nothing fancy and doesn't have flowers. I am envious.

We have a market like that here - you wouldn't believe how "upscale" the downtown market has become! Our family loves a quick trip there for all kinds of goodies.

I must go find a Farmer's market and a recipe for fried green tomatoes.

Now that is a farmers market. We just have the under a shade tree with food in baskets variety of markets.
Fried green here. We have a place here that makes fried veggie kabobs. Yum.

Judy, I will try that recipe later today for fried green tomatoes.

I think I enjoyed your day as much as you did. The picture of the roses will be shown at our dinner table tonight to convince one of the ladies who just last night insisted that that type of flower isn't properly called a rose.(!?!) Now I have the word of an Expert!

As close as I have come to fried green tomatoes is the movie (which I loved). I will watch for that recipe and try it out.

You and your neighbors look fabulous and I envy you having lunch in such an interesting spot.

You must have a fantastic farmer's market if the pictures are an example.

I can tell from the pics that your farmer's market is much larger than ours. I love the look of those tomatoes and squash. Yummmy! I've gotten some really good cherry tomatoes this year at our market. I look forward to some good fruit before long.

Oh, I like my maters any way at all. LOVE those tomatoes so much!
