Odds and Ends

Some bluebird either had a fight or is molting, because my granddaughter and I found a total of 8 of these beautiful tail feathers in the yard over last weekend. They now reside in a blue vase in my kitchen window. I love the color!

Years ago, I used driftwood from the NC coast as decor in some event I did. I had to get rid of most of it (termites attacked) but I kept a few pieces and this one has been lodged into the fence for about 20 years. It is some sort of red cedar, according to the guy who gathered it for me.

After the rain and snow of ten or so days ago, the pool cover was standing full of slimy water and leaves. I have since pumped off the water, but soon will begin the laborious task of removing the leaves before May, when we will open the pool. It's not easy, but it's definitely worth it come summer.

One of my two rosemary bushes. I thought for sure it would be broken after the heavy, wet snow, but it bounced back in a day. I wish I could get it to grow in a large, bushy mound, instead of all leaning to one side. It drapes out of a whiskey barrel that has been there for so long, I'm sure it is about to completely disintegrate.

Yesterday would have been my dad's 105th birthday. I still miss him every day.

A quandry: Do I stay in bed long enough to get the sleep I need and risk a sore back, or I get up early and stay groggy all day. What to do?

Note: I am working the next three days. HOORAY! Visiting or commenting may be sparse.

I have the same quandary. My back aches from being in bed too long (over 6 hours) so I get up and sit on the couch where I fall back asleep. Then I wake up with a stiff neck. It's a pain either way!

Those feathers are a simply wonderful blue! How lovely to have birds that have feathers like that!

My Dad would have been 108 last month. I still think he's at home, typing away in his office. My Mum would have been 102 - and she would have hated to have lived that long!

Stay in bed is the best bet!

Maybe you need a firmer mattress? We like ours to be extra firm - and so far, so good...

I think that those are blue jay feathers, and very lovely. I also worried about loosing my rosemary, but it weather the heavy snows. I did lose a wild dogwood...sigh.

What gorgeous feathers, that really is a vibrant blue!

Perhaps you should get up and then nap on the sofa later. That is what I seem to end up doing a lot these days!

I miss my dad too Judy. I love those bluejay feathers...beautiful.

I think I'd rather be groggy than have the back pain. Once in a while I'll get that...and I hate it. I keep the heating pad nearby.

Take care and enjoy your working days coming up.... Hugs, Joy

Usually when I find a bunch of bird feathers like that, I find a few more sticking out of one of the cat's mouths!

I know about always missing parents. Their birthdays are always celebrated in my heart and mind.

Have you ever seen driftwood that wasn't graceful? Just beautiful. I too celebrate my Dad's birthday, he would be 100 next year. Have yet to meet a man who could completely measure up to him.

Love your driftwood picture!

Know what you mean about sleeping in. This morning it was solved for me. Just never woke up until 8:

Ah, the signs of Spring. I remember how my pool cover used to be yukky and very heavy with the mud and leaves on top. That pool was wonderful for years, but became the main reason I sold my house. I could no longer do the hard work maintaining it and couldn't use it due to skin cancers. Now I have a pool at the end of my street that the association maintains if I want to cool off in water.

The blue feathers are beautiful. Like the driftwood and pleased I no longer have a pool. It was like cleaning a giant bathtub. Everyone enjoyed it and I did the maintenance. I would rather get up early and go to bed early.

Not a "bluebird feather" That is a blue JAY feather but pretty nevertheless.

Bluebirda are nice gentle birds, Blue jays are predators. They disrupt the nests of other birds and eat the eggs.

Cheers.

I love your blue feathers. I'm sure they look pretty in your kitchen.

Enjoy your days of work. I sometimes wish I had a part-time job. I'm going to start doing osme Pampered Chef shows at the end of the month. That will keep me busy for a while.

Luckily (or not so luckily) life has been so hectic lately that I haven't had enough time in bed for my back to get to that screaming stage. My pool still has about 6 inches of ice and 8 inches snow on it. We open in June.

I agree, these are blue jay feathers... and it doesn't surprise me, since jays are such mean birds.. they are likely to fight. I have found two mounds of gray feathers in our yard... large ones and the soft downy ones as well, enough that it is likely the two birds didn't survive. If you have any hawks around... well, they have to eat too.
