Staircases for the Brave? (or Foolhardy) +

This one's tame enough, and I know cats would love it!

Only nimble mountain goats, sure-footed kitties and slithery snakes should attempt this one!

This one would require too much concentration for me! And I'd have to go slowly, very slowly.

This I like! a beautiful, creative idea for railings!

Double-duty. But look at it below, which is from the top looking down. Would you attempt it?

This one looks like a snowboard park from the side! I'd get dizzy on it. Pretty to look at, though it seems like a lot of wasted space.

Another one for mountain goats. Especially since there are no hand rails!

This one is pretty, but confusing to walk on. I'll bet it's hard to see where one step ends and the next one begins.

Not good for anyone over the age of 50 - or anyone with bad balance! Again, no hand rails.

Pretty to look at. Not very functional.

Fool the eye?

I don't get this one. It reminds me of an old movie title...."Up the Down Staircase."

I want to know who on earth carved that out and how long it took!

At church yesterday, the first and second grade classes put on a short puppet show and it was precious! I wish I'd had my camera. The puppets looked like Muppets, and the children sang a jazzed-up version of "This Little Light of Mine". You'd have loved it!

Every time I drink red wine, it has a puzzling effect on me. I can go to sleep when I want, but after 3-5 hours, I wake up and cannot go back to sleep for at least an hour or two. WHY? It has happened often enough that I both expect and dread it. You may be saying...."Why doesn't she give up red wine?" Well, that would be too simple. I love the taste of red wine and I don't care for most white wines, except very expensive ones, which I never have unless someone gives it to me. I could drink beer when we have company or go to parties, but then I'd fall asleep before my guests left, which could be slightly embarrassing......LOL. Would you believe that happened to me once? We hadn't been married long and we invited mr. k's boss and his wife over. They must not have been very interesting (at least to me) because I fell asleep about an hour before they left. I didn't know whether to blame it on the beer or on boredom, but I was certain I never wanted anything like that to happen again!

The stairs are nice to look at, but alas not for me!

Fantastic staircases. Wherever did you find them?

Interesting stairs! I think I'll stick to the plain old-fashion variety.

Amazing stairs but I'd need two hands holding on to climb. Guess I would never see the second floor in those homes. Hope they didn't lead to the bathroom.
Are you sure it is the wine? I get the same affect on my sleeping with no beverage involved.

Those staircases would give me nightmares. I still remember the fright the first time I tackled stairs with new glasses.
Judy try my evening tipple: a glass of white wine - any will do - and a dash of Creme de Cassis - a blackcurrant Thingy. It makes a French drink called Kir.
That's funny I've just told you about an aperitif and word verification was predinie :)

Those staircases are so creative if not all practical. Not sure I would like ones with no hand rail though. I love the one with the tree hand rail but I also quite like the third one though I think it would be easier to go up than down somehow!

I really don't think i could maneuver any of them. We have 18 steps in our house and that is 17 too many. As for the wine.....same thing happens to me...I stopped drinking it.

Oh those staircases!! You wouldn't find me on most of them. No way, I have plenty of problems just getting up and down normal ones sometimes. But some of them really are pretty cool.

Regarding wine....I rarely drink it...just never was my thing for some reason.

I could never climb most of those staircases. I think they were created by a very young architect with very young clients. I'll bet the owners of those houses will never be able to stay in them once they become an elder.

I need a handrail now because my balance is so bad. If I ever wanted a book on the the top shelf of that one in the library and made it to the top I would have to stay there until I was rescued.

I love the bookcase stairs...especially the first one (empty of books). My cats would love that.

And the red wine...alcohol will do that. It can make a person sleepy, but tipsy people tend to wake up a lot. Truly, the key is to either not drink it, or just drink a lot more of it, so you won't care that you wake up...

I absolutely love the staircases, though I'm afraid I couldn't navigate any of them with my bad knees. I especially like the fancy railings. You seem to find the most interesting photos of any blog I visit.

Which one is the stairway to heaven? Most of those are intriguing, if nothing else. Do any of them say how many calories you burn going up?

I updated my latest post to answer the question you left.

Cool pictures to be sure.

There isn't but ONE Staircase among all those that I would even want to attempt to navigate...! The one with the very Artful Railings that look like tree branches.....That looks meneuvarable....lol. The rest? Very dangerous especially for us Older Folks.....A lot of them are pretty---almost like "ART" Pieces....but, not practical looking at all, to me, and just filled with so many mine fields of possible falls.

The Red Wine problem sure is a dilemma....But I guess if you know what's coming---Well, maybe it's best you just pick up a book for that hour...lol!

What a great bunch of staircases... Some of them do strange things to the eyes though...

You couldn't pay me enough to get me on those stairways! They are pretty and interesting but I'd for sure break something important.

Gotta love red wine -- white lacks it's panache.

That was fun. I would like to show you the stuff I had to climb on to get to my son's loft in Asheville where I slept once, and spiral staircase I saw in Orlando that went to nowhere. It was at an abandoned house site and the staircase was all that was left!

PS might be the sulfates in the red wine. I can't drink it but I would like to. Once red gave me a mini seizure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_wine_headache

Some of those staircases look so frightening, I would take steps to avoid them ;-)

I'm with you, handrails are essential!

I love the staircase with the tree, beautiful!

Well, I bet you didn't fall asleep during that adorable kids' puppet show.

No way! I wouldn't try those stairways. I would not trust my balance. Some of them are certainly pretty though.
