It is mind-boggling! (and you don't have to be a genius to understand it!)

So, tell me: do you think Michelle Obama should or should not wear sleeveless dresses? I just heard on TV that some people are making a big stink about her choice of clothing. Since her arms are nicely toned, I don't see what the uproar is about. Do you? Some woman from Chicago emailed a TV show and said something like this: Mrs. Obama needs to realize that the events she attends are serious and she should dress in a more befitting fashion. I'd like to know why she thinks that sleeveless dresses are a poor choice and not formal enough.
I have thought most of her choices were nice, and I am enjoying watching our President's wife in pretty dresses; not wearing pants suits all the time. What do you think?

That YouTube video was profound - especially considering the topic I just finished writing about. Crazy! I asked that very same question, "What's it all mean?" Although it was in a different context, the underlying essence is inescapable. More dovetailing than i can shake a stick at.
Tanya sent me tonight - and not a moment too soon.

I do not think that she should wear sleeveless dresses as they do tend to be more informal...but this is a new generation and us oldies must go with the flow.
I think she should wear more low-cuts. Cleavage lowers the average man's heartbeat about two points.... think of it as a public health service.
I can't say that I have followed her every move, but Michele Obama seems to know how to behave in public. I have never thought her choice of outfits to be in appropriate. I am sure if they were that someone with some influence would mention it to her. Aren't there more important things to worry about?
I think this is a pointless and ridiculous discussion. Her husband is setting policies that will break the bank and the length of her sleeves is an issue? Nonsense.
That YouTube is frightening Judy!!!!
I am reassured that she is doing everyting right if her sleeve lenght is the only complaint people can find. Of course I am totally low brow and would not mind seeing her romp around the White House in Nike's best. As long as she is not Pamela Anderson appropriate, I'm good.
Loved the video. Wow....
Very interesting video... makes you wonder.

That was my point exactly, without saying so (that her sleeve length or the lack of it) should be an issue.
Whether Barack is or is not doing something to break the bank will be determined in the future. He certainly can't do much more damage than has been done in the past 8 years.
Hi. Very interesting post.. thoughtful..thanks.
We use the video and/or Shift Happens in some presentations to parents and teachers of the Very able and Extremely able (aka G&T) pupils. They always impress if not frighten. They scare me...
As for Ms Obama's dress sense..as long as she looks feminine...I wouldn't worry about sleeve length...there is at least one picture of Jacqui Kennedy with a sleeveless dress...this is the 21st century. I have to say that I'm glad that Mr Obamaa wears a tie with his suite....that is a "no no" for me.
Not sure that Nike are politically correct. Are they?
Before Google we used libraries and reference books.
Mrs Obama is a very elegant woman and a fine example - fashion wise - to the country at large. Maybe the fact that she has such a great figure ruffles a few feathers. Tough!
That was a amazing video...I think I'm gonn have to share it on my blog, too.
And the First Lady? She should ROCK those arms. She's in terrific shape, and if I was in that shape, I'd be showing 'em off all the time, too. She's got grace and style, so if she wants to be all graceful and stylish while sleeveless, more power to her.
i think Michelle should wear what ever she wants to wear. she looks great. i love her sense of style.
I think that Michelle is a breath of fresh air and a welcome change and should dress as she feels is best. I have a feeling that she has much more important things to concentrate on (such as the families of our troops that were completely ignored under the Bush regime.)
I'm thinking it probably doesn't make any difference to Michelle Obama what anyone thinks about her wardrobe.
The YouTube is sort of disturbing to me--in ways I don't totally understand. . .
I think Michelle Obama's choices have always been in good taste, but I agree that it shouldn't even be a subject of discussion. It has nothing to do with politics and it proves that people STILL focus on how a WOMAN looks, not what she DOES!!!
The sleeveless dress issue is ridiculous to me. I think a grown woman whose husband is the president of the United States has a right to choose the clothes she wants to wear for whatever reason.
Don't the people criticizing her ever go to the grocery store, the mall, church, movies, even the theater in NYC?? For heaven's sake, look around!! Michelle looks pretty fabulous by the standards of society. She's not walking the red carpet, and she wasn't elected to be the fashion icon of the world. Why do people have the right to condemn her choice of sleeve length??
Good topic. I obviously feel stronger than I thought on the issue!
Michelle Obama has style and grace
and looks elegant in whatever she wears because she carries herself with such dignity...
When she entered the Senate chamber the other night for the President's speech I thought she looked SMASHING!!!!!!
Some people need to take a chill pill. Sleeveless dresses are just fine. In more formal situations, she should probably wear long sleeves, but for low key, daily events, who cares if her arms are bare? Her attire should reflect the event she's attending. She is our First Lady, so care should be taken as to what she wears, but no matter what she wears, she will attract criticism from someone somewhere. She should lean towards being as classy and appropriate as possible.
I'm with the majority here. If I looked as good as Michelle Obama, damn skippy, I'd be wearing sleeveless dresses. Alas, that is not the case - these bat wings need covered up.
I think she looks terrific!
I think she looks great. Aren't most formals sleeveless?
