Starting before Thanksgiving, on the boardwalk in Virginia Beach, they have hundreds of colored lights on the beach, arching over the boardwalk and to the left of it. You pay $10 per car load and drive the length of the boardwalk (I'd approximate 30 blocks or more) to see the designs. I don't know if they are the same every year, or different, but we enjoyed them, especially our two granddaughters who were with us. Above: Yo-ho-ho and a bottle o' rum!!
Treasure chest on an island. My son took the photos since I was in the wrong part of the car. We didn't have the camera on the correct setting for shooting pix from a moving car - but I'm posting them anyway.
Lighthouse.
Lobsters, playing musical instruments.
A spouting fish.
Welcome to VA Beach!
Santa hooked a whale!
Schools of fishies

Thanks to all who have said they like my new December header photo. It is from a Christmas card I received several years ago from my cousin and her husband, and it came from Easy Street Publications in New Jersey.
It is a takeoff on the 1942 painting called "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper - my favorite American painter.

Excellent!!!!!!!! The park down the hill is decorated for Christmas with things like that. I love it!!!!!
Our downtown is decorated like that down by the river too. I'm going to a play on Friday night, and I'm going to try to get some shots.
I have always loved the work of Edward Hopper - his pictures depicting summer days actually make me uncomfortable because summer is my least favorite season and you can feel the heat coming off of the canvas!
What a light show! And I adore that header, how cute all those deer drinking, lol!
How artistic - I loved those. Forgot to mention how cute your header is.
I agree with the other blog buddies who said they really like your new header. Unique and cute!
Those lighted scenes are terrific. How wonderful that you enjoyed them with family. I love this kind of thing, so I know I'd enjoy seeing them.
Enjoyed my visit to Va. Beach via your snapshots. Thanks for sharing.
I'm bit slow but just as I really noticed the detail of your header it reminded me of a classic American painting - the name of which I couldn't remember - if I ever knew -and lo and behold,I scroll down and there you mention it. Spooky - in a nice way:)
I like the illuminations at the beach.
Love the banner plane, and Santa fishing.
Nice banner...I thought that scene looked familiar.
That's a wonderful idea and what nice pictures!!
I like the one of Santa and the whale. So can you walk the boardwalk and see them without paying?
One year we were in St. Augustine near Christmastime and saw The Nights of Light while in a horse drawn cab...before I was blogging.
Nice!!
Where does the money go that is raised?
Bear((( )))
That sounds like that thing they do at Walnut Creek here. I forget what it's called, but it's the same concept.
Isn't "dhedbu" Swahili for "I'm so drunk!"? No? Oh... could be Zulu then I suppose...
