Ephemera: Invitations

This is an invitation to a Raleigh Debutante party from the 1980's. The band "White Animals" was playing for the party, hence the artwork and theme for the invitation. I did the flowers for it; the color scheme was black, white and yellow - but that's all I remember. I haven't heard of that band since then. Maybe that party was their swan song?

Your invitation might be a collector's item. Amazon has a song of The White Animals that you can download and their bio reads: "The White Animals
They weren't the most successful band to come out of the Southeast during the '80s or even the most critically acclaimed, but Nashville's the White Animals may well have been the most beloved. Mixing '60s British Invasion influences with a '70s punk aesthetic, a dash of psychedelic flavor, and dub rhythms, the White Animals managed to appeal to both jaded indie rock fans and mainstream college kids alike. Punching the clock close to 300 nights a year, the White Animals played every show....."

I remember when debutante balls had engraved formal invitations. Not that a hick like me had one -- but a couple of my girlfriends did! In fact I'll have to check to see if they still do.

Black, white, and yellow? That reminds me of an illustration I saw from a patient history in "An Anthropologist on Mars", one of Oliver Sack's books. The patient wasn't able to perceive color due to a brain injury so he would work in black and white, and occasionally add one color for accent.

Odd, the things one thinks of. Nice invitation, Judy.

It is interesting how notalgia brings out the most fascincating stuff. I never went to or was invitied to or heard about a debutante ball, but I'll bet they were fun.

I would have thought that adeb ball would have been more snooty than that invitation would lead one to belive...good to know not all of them are!

Annie's comment let's you know that it's good that you've hung on to that invitation.
I doubt the band even has it.

Kinda reminds me of a band I loved in the 90's called Bonepony.
