I realized tonight that the sounds I have been hearing every night around 9:30-10pm, which I thought were distant thunder, are fireworks going off at our State Fair, which is about twelve miles from my house. Too bad I can't see them, too.

I was supposed to work tomorrow, delivering wedding flowers, but my employer said he didn't need me after all. I was disappointed, as was my wallet. I suppose I should look at it as a blessing, though, because it gives me more time to do the wedding flowers I have to deliver on Sunday. It's an all purple wedding, and it's so small it's almost more trouble than it's worth: two bouquets and a handful of bouts and corsages. I know brides are cutting back on floral expenses, and you can't blame them, but it is hard on florist's bottom line.

Thanks for suggesting the new blog. It's a hoot.
Gosh, I didn't even think about cut backs for weddings - hope you keep as busy as you want to be.
The trickle down effect is 'Alive & Well'..So sorry Judy...! Where is this all going to end?
That site is wonderful! Thanks for The Heads Up!
I have been following Margaret and Helen for awhile. She gives me something to aspire to!!!
Thanks for the recommendation on the new blog. I'll go check it out!
Maybe, now that the Holiday Season is gearing up, people will "splurge" on Christmas decorations?
Judy, thanks for the "wishes". Now how did you know? ;)
It's a shame brides have to cut back on flowers too. I hadn't considered that. I hope the Christmas season still proves fruitful. Now I'm going to check out that blog.
OMG, I love that blog! I'm putting them on my roll this minute :)
Hope your florist's bottom is better soon:)
Just going to check out the new blog.
I love them -- and added them to my blog list!
Unfortunately, I'm not surprised that people are cutting back on weddings. Perhaps when things settle a bit, it will pick up. I was appalled when I found out that my son and his wife spent $30,000 on their wedding seven years ago. Seems a bit much to me but it was lovely. I don't think there was an ivory rose left in the state of Illinois that day!
Oh, Judy, thank you! Margaret and Helen are so wonderful! I'm going to mention their blog in mine too. Everyone should hear about them.
The FIREWORKS! That's it! Last night, I kept hearing this sound and thought...what the heck is going on out there? Hail? An earthquake? WHAT?
You've solved the mystery.
you are right, even people who are spending money are cutting back a little here and there, so the effect is across the economy in so many ways.
That blog you have linked to is wonderful.
She's a fiesty old broad isn't she?
Bear((( )))
Judy,
I did go to Margaret and Helen's blog and really enjoyed reading it.
I do have a question though. If they just started blogging how in the World are they getting all those comments already?
In the past 5 posts that I read they had 95 commenters, then 141,then184,then186,then 403.
Wow,how did they get so popular so quickly?
I think they are terrific and I suppose others do, too.
Sorry you've missed out on some work there. I'm glad I'm not needing to buy flowers right now. Hopefully, things will pick up.
Nancy, I don't know how they are getting so many comments already, unless it is just word of mouth, or the writers sent links to a lot of other people in the beginning. There is also the possibility that Margaret and Helen are not older women at all.....LOL
the chain effect, Domino effect of this economy is astounding
an all purple wedding sounds so cool - I love purple
I went scrolling down through My Hats Blog a while ago. You sure did add a lot of class to it. Your picture has gotten even prettier. Thank you again.
Now I'm off to check out your new blog suggestion.
Judy, THANK YOU for the tip about Margaret and Helen! I needed a good clean laugh tonight!
My dad's work has been slow too, also. He's not worked for the past two weeks.
I hope you get so many weddings and events to do that you start complaining about being overworked!!
:-)
I'm adding you to my reading list. I am just now starting a list today as I visit blog buddies. I was not able to add Naomi for some reason. I sent her an email to see if others have let her know they've had the same problem.
I didn't cut back on floral expenses, Judy! lol I did my part.
I'd have loved to have seen the all purple wedding too.
