This is a very old comedone extractor.
It belonged to my mom, and when I found it recently, I was struck by the design on it. A lowly instrument, but with such a pretty design! The newer ones might work more effectively, but they surely aren't as attractive as this one.
Have you ever used one? I probably fiddled around with this when I was a teenager, but most often my fingernails did the job for me. TMI, huh?
When I g*ogled comedone extractor, I was surprised at how many hits came up. Apparently they are more popular than I ever thought.
Have you ever used one?
BIG NEWS! I am honored to be Neil's blog crush of the day!! Go thank him for me, okay?

I had never heard the term but I recognized the product use right away. My mother must have had one to use on me.
Can't wait to see what you come up with next. Never a dull post at Kenju's place!
Mom had one and used it on us as teens - always admonishing us to not squeeze with our fingers ... yeah, right!
Yes, I too had a mother who hovered over my teenage skin with one of those things. But the only name I ever heard had something to do with blackheads
Oh, yuck, why did I visit your blog before my breakfast!
Never seen one before, but you mean it's a pimple popper? Eww!
i learn something new every day...
My mom suggested the use of the rounded end of a bobby pin. Same idea, I guess.
I actually have one although it is stainless steel. I suppose I must have bought it for the original purpose of squeezing blackheads. I know it didn't work very well.
I kept it because, when sterilized, it is a good tool to remove wax from the outer ear. Yuck indeed!
I had to read that three times before my brain registered that you did NOT say it was a condom extractor. Which is god, because I was thinking that thing wouldn't be much good extracting a wayward condom...
I remember my mom having one but never used it. I have a button hook of hers shaped like a male private part.....interesting old gadgets.
I knew what it was when I first saw it, though I've never used one - nor have I seen one that elaborate. I also did the squeezing with my fingernails. We were told to never pick at our faces, ever, because it would cause scarring. Well, I risked that often and never had anything bad happen. LOL.
I too have seen one but never knew what it's purpose was. Thanks for the new learned fact.
Nope...never used one. Never even heard of it before.
I'm guessing it's to do with blackheads and probably is much safer to use than fingers because of the even pressure. I should have had one in my teens.
Well, you gave me a picture and a name and I STILL don't know what a comedone extractor is. I wonder if I need a comedone so I can extract it.....
Judy,
Well, you know what I thought you said.
That's a pretty fancy name for a pimple popper. I had never heard of it.
I never heard of this implement before this post.
Lord, how my adolescence might have been better had I known of such a thing.
:)
Cheers.
I have two in my bathroom cabinet that I purchased at the drug store. Revlon makes them - my kids use them.
I haven't used one (I also was a proponent of finger extractions) but I've had facials where this instrument was used. Ouch.
Of course, you get to be a certain age, and no more comedones (thank heavens). On the other hand, no more comedones means no more oil means good-bye youthful skin. Oh drat.
I have the one my mom used tohand me on a regular basis. Looks identical to the one in the picture. They work. But not on the big nasty ones.
