Would You Fly On This?

Even though the Aeroscraft dwarfs the largest commercial airliners, it requires less net space on the ground than any plane because it doesn't need a runway. The airship takes off and lands like a helicopter, straight up and down This is not a blimp, It's a sort of flying Queen Mary 2 that could change the way you think about air travel.

It's the Aeroscraft, and when it's completed, it will ferry pampered passengers across continents and oceans as they stroll leisurely about the one-acre cabin or relax in their staterooms. Unlike its dirigible ancestors, the Aeroscraft is not lighter than air. Its 14 million cubic feet of helium hoist only two-thirds of the craft's weight. The rigid and surprisingly aerodynamic body, driven by huge rear-ward propellers, generates enough additional lift to keep the behemoth and its 400-ton payload aloft while cruising During takeoff and landing, six turbo-fan jet engines push the ship up or ease its descent. This two-football-fields-long airship is the brainchild of Igor Pasternak, whose privately funded California firm, Worldwide Aeros Corporation, is in the early stages of developing a prototype and expects to have one completed by 2010.

During the flight, passengers would view national landmarks just 8,000 feet below, or, if they weren't captivated by the view, the cavernous interior would easily accommodate such amenities as luxury staterooms, restaurants - even a casino.

I just realized that I missed noting post #666, which came 2 days ago. I don't know why I should feel the need to mention that.....lol.

We had blog friends over for dinner tonight, and the time flew by! Must have been having fun, right? I did, anyway, and I know mr. kenju did.

I don't know. How fast does it go? I think I would have to wait and see.

No thanks. It looks to much like the Hindenberg.

I definitely wouldn't take the maiden voyage (thinking Titanic here) but I'd give it a shot!

Sure, I'd fly in that (though I don't need the luxury accomodations, thank you). I'd fly in almost anything. I love flying. But really, you get more of a sensation of flight in a small plane, which is what I like.

Looks kindof awkward to me. I'd miss the rush of the big plane taxi-ing and then roaring off.

Looks too much like you know what - - - I wouldn't fly in it.

I would love to fly in that.
"Relax in a stateroom" sounds like my kind of air travel.
I always manage to sit in the seat where the fellow ahead of me keeps his seat in the reclined position throughout the flight and I have some bratty little kid kicking my seat behind me.

I haven't been on any sort of flight in 28 years, so I don't know... I guess I'd have to check out the track record first and then make a decision. It looks really cool thought.

I agree with Jean and Joan...too much like something we've seen before.

THAT looks like an Amazing Ship! And traveling in it seems like it would be similar to a Las Vegas Hotel--In The Air! (lol)
I wonder what it might cost to fly from Los Angeles to New York?
Well, it will be interesting to see how this ship actually develops!

Thoughts of the Hindenburg come to mind.
I'm sure this new craft will be awesome though.

I bet post #666 was an EVIL post.
