Oh, Look ~ Another New Creek

The last time I wrote about the creek that forms behind my house any time we have a storm, it was Hurricane Alberto's fault. This time, it is Tropical Storm Hanna that came to visit. She wasn't as hard-hearted as the weather people thought she would be, so the photos are not as dramatic today, but interesting, nonetheless. We had about 4-5 inches of rain; sorely needed and we are grateful to have it. Last year's drought must be almost abated by now.

I had to brave the light drizzle Saturday morning, to empty at least 4" of water from the pool, as well as a lot of leaves and debris. It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, so we must not have had too much wind Friday night (no matter what mr. kenju says he heard). I saw one tree down in my neighborhood, but I haven't driven all the way through it either, so there could be more. With Ike and Josephine hard on Hanna's heels, who knows what we might have next week??!!

Driving to the airport Sunday morning, on the way to pick up my brother-in-law, I passed the small lakes off Airport Road and the water level was higher than I've seen them in almost two years. That's a very good sign! BIL had been on a golfing trip to Pinehurst with his coworkers, despite the threat of torrential rains. Hanna notwithstanding, they were able to play for four days (before, during and after the storm passed). We've had a good visit and I cooked a pretty good dinner: pork chops, crash hot potatoes (recipe courtesy of The Pioneer Woman) green beans, good bread and lemon cake and ice cream for dessert. Too bad he has to leave this morning, since we enjoy his visits very much.

Glad Hanna turned out to be pretty tame as storms go. I know ya'll need the rain.

Judy,

We were so happy to get all the rain that Hanna brought to us.
We needed it desperately. My lawn looked like shredded wheat despite my standing there with a watering hose for a long time every day.

We have a cottage on a small stream that floods after a very heavy rain. The rain from Hanna would normally have flooded us but it hadn't rained here since July 27th so the ground was so dry it just absorbed the Hanna water and brought us back to normal.

Now, as you said, we wait for Ike.
Hope he is a gentleman to all in his path......

I am Hanna wasn't too bad! Everytime I see a Hurricane headed for the Carolinas I think Fran. Still makes me shudder!

Falls Lake was tip-top FULL today. A nice sight.

I'm surprised the BIL didn't golf DURING the storm. They do that, you know. :)

that's a really pretty photo

Hannah dumped a lot of rain on us in NJ, not much wind

we had some local flooding but nothing serious.

I'm glad you all are getting the rain you need, but it stinks that it has to arrive in a possibly scary fashion.

No matter how much snow, rain and any other wet weather the drought never seems to go away. After the 3rd heaviest winter in recorded Idaho history this year...we are still in water trouble.

Lovely photo, and so glad that the storm wasn't a bad one for you. We had lot's of rain, most of the summer here, almost every second day for over a month lol, the good news for me was not having to water the flowers or the garden so I am not complaining, like everyone else here, now that summer is pretty much over ...

We had a lot of wind in our area just south of you, Judy, but, you're right...Pinehurst played on as if nothing was going on !!

Oh I hope these next two Hurricanes don't give you a much larger Creek, Judy....It does seem as if Hurricanes are getting fiercer and fiercer...Or is it just my imagination?
Stay Dry, my dear.
I have to look up those Potato's....!

My fountain is overflowing with leaves and stuff. I had just a week when it was functioning. We are slowly sinking in the ooze.
