Hey........I think that cartoonist knows my husband!! The one who, when he looks in the mirror, still sees the 25 year old basketball player, with the chiseled chin and no belly at all. LOL (Found in The New Yorker Magazine.)

Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.
Harry S. Truman, 33rd US president (1884-1972)

Hm, good thinkers.
Something for everyone there Judy.
BTW re the snow in our snowfields, size certainly is important, the high country in NSW and Vic. is huge with darn close to zero population, there is nothing but the freezing Southern ocean between here and the South Pole so we cop plenty of wintry weather up there, lucky they are only 7,000 ft and not 15,000 like the Alps in Switzerland.
In a way, we are now living in the country Truman described! OY!
Love all these quotes, AND the cartoon! lol!
Judy,
I love the quotations you select.
"You can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you. -John Wooden, sports coach (b. 1910)"
I like this one, too, along the same lines.
"Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting." Anonymous
The cartoon rings a bell. Janie! I'm off to wish her many happy returns of the day. I like the Wooden quote best of all today.
I haven't started to live in denial yet. Of course like Jack Benny, I stopped counting years ago. That always helps.
That cartoon could be me...I'm really good at denial.
Funny cartoon. I have a friend like that woman's husband. I, however, love the discounts.
Wasn't it Truman who said 'The buck stops here?'
Off to see Miss Poopie.
I think the Harry Truman quote is very fitting for today's times.
The cartoon is amusing, unfortunaely for this 71yo, you just killed my one last illusion---(sigh)
My husband may not be in denial...but I think that I am and that is why I don't look in the mirror as often as I can!
These are great! It's funny how the things that ring true a little have the most comedic quality sometimes, even when there is aprt of it (the Truman quote) that sends a chill down your spine.
That cartoon sounds just like my dad.
He REFUSES to order from any senior menus, and even though his hearing is going, he'd rather miss half of what we say than wear a hearing aid.
Good words.
Love the John Wooden quote.
Words to live by.
