The Wonders of Vodka

Who Knew??? (I can't vouch for any of these, but some may be worth a try, although I'd use a cheaper brand!)

1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The stuff dissolves adhesive. (Only a baby would need this, right? Or a man.....lol)

2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a trigger-spray bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew. (Why wouldn't rubbing alcohol work?)

3. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs. (window cleaner is cheaper!)

4. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and letting your safety razor blade soak in the alcohol after shaving. The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting.

5. Spray vodka on wine stains, scrub with a brush, and then blot dry.

6. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores.

7. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair, and stimulates the growth of healthy hair. (If you put it on your hair and face, wouldn't you smell like a drunk?)

8. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle with vodka and spray bees or wasps to kill them. (Please don't kill bees.....but wasps......yes!)

9. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water into a Ziploc freezer bag and freeze for a slushy, refreshing ice pack for aches, pain or black eyes.

10. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains.

11. To relieve a fever, use a washcloth to rub vodka on your chest and back as a liniment.

12. To cure foot odor, wash your feet with vodka. (I wish I had known this when mr. kenju and our son were younger!)

13. Vodka will disinfect and alleviate a jellyfish sting. (Knowing that would have come in very handy!)

14. Pour vodka over an area affected with poison ivy to remove the urushiol oil from your skin. (This too!)

15. Swish a shot of vodka over an aching tooth. Allow your gums to absorb some of the alcohol to numb the pain.

And silly me! I've only been drinking the stuff. (well, not really....LOL. I got this in email)

You mean there's something I could be doing with that year old bottle of vodka in the freezer?

I once saw an episode of MythBusters that disproved the vodka/foot oder remedy tho.

Or...drink the bottle of vodka and see how much you care about the stains/mildew/foot odour/pain from removing a bandage! LOL!

You know I can't resist this one, Judy. From my experience I can tell you that vodka makes all sorts of things disappear, ... including husbands, jobs, money, children and your hold on reality.
(The good news is that sobriety can often bring them back!)

LOL I suspect whoever originally wrote that list spent way, way too much time with vodka, Judy. They look like good ways to use it tho--if you don't want to drink it.

I liked number 9 (about freezing the ziploc bag full of vodka for a cold compress), but I use a bag of frozen peas - sometimes for years before the bags fall apart! LOL.

Neat list. You could try all these things or just drink the hootch and forget about your problems!

Mercy, would seem a shame to drink it, too valuable! I'm printing these.

Now I wonder what the vodka will do that rubbing alcohol won't???? Guess you can drink it as you work - probably does all kinds of magical things then - LOL!

All I can say is what a waste of a perfectly good bottle of vodka.
I prefer using mine to make bloody caesars.

Cure for a long day

One glass tumbler
Four icecubes
1 oz Vodka

Drink

*Warning...do not repeat or your long day can turn into a short life.

Rubbing alcohol would work for half of those things (as would Listerine). I'm not going to waste a good bottle of vodka on any of that. :-)

What concerns me is if it can do ALL these things just what is it doing to one's insides???
I do not drink any 'hard liquor'...And I've always thought Vodka smelled like Strong Medicine...! Now I Know Why!

I like vodka, but never knew it could be so handy ;)

Clearly no house should be without one. It's never been my cup of tea - if you'll pardon the expression.

I have known about the medicinal qualities of vodka since I was a child.
My great grandfather(we called him Papa) was sitting at the table one day with his finger immersed in a cup of clear liquid.
He'd cut it and my great grandmother made him sit there a soak it.
Every few minutes, he'd pull his finger out and take a sip from the cup and then stick in finger back in it.
I thought it was very strange but laughed when I realized it was vodka...
Grammy saw what Papa was doing and yelled at him to stop..LOL

I love this!!!

But it does remind me of that funny old fruitcake recipe where you take a swig of burbon each time you add an igredient to the cake.

Hummm...I need to work on the grout in my shower today and then soak my feet...:)

The Absolut Lemon is really, really good! I have yet to make my way thru the rainbow but it might be a summer project ;)

Ya know, I tried cleaning the bathroom with vodka once.

But then the Spouse Thingy caught me licking the shower walls...and, well... :::shrugs:::

Sounds like a lot of excuses to have a few bottles of the stuff around different parts of the house ;-)

Darn, I was just beginning to soak my feet in Vodka when I read shephard's comment that the MythBusters had already disproved it. Oh well, back in the bottle. LOL

Mythbusters didn't disprove the footbath - they confirmed it.

I found this blog interesting and informative.Vodka has the multitasking qualities. From now onwards I have to buy a large number of vodka bottle in order to perform all these task while drinking.I like to enjoy my drink with Cohiba cigars. As my favorite cigars are not easily available in the local market, so I buy them online.
