It's a Red-Letter Day!!

How do you feel when you haven't been able to hear very much for years and then you get hearing aids? You feel fabulous/wonderful/grateful/happy!!

My new aids were "installed" around noon today and so far, I haven't had any problems adjusting to them at all! I was told that I might experience itching, things sounding too loud, my own voice being too loud, etc., and none of that has happened!

I mentioned before that I had gone to C*stco to be tested. I also had testing at a Mir*cle Ear franchise. The cost difference was over double at Mir*cle Ear, compared to what it was at C*stco. According to the guy at C*stco, the aids at both places are made by the same company. He used to work for Mir*cle Ear (in a franchise), so he should know. The only difference (I was told) between those and the ones I bought is that the Mir*cle Ear aids (op*n-fit, 950-C) have 16 channels of amplification and the others have 14 channels. They deleted the lowest and highest channels, which make no difference most of the time anyway, or so they say. There is a 3 year warranty on them, and a 60 day trial period. If at any time during that 60 days I am not satisfied, I will receive a full refund. I have no qualms at all about recommending C*stco; however, you should remember that the way the aids are programmed for you (after testing) is of the utmost importance. My guy seems to have hit the nail on the head for me, and I suppose it is possible that you could find someone who isn't as knowledgeable as this man. That's the only disclaimer I feel I need to make.

Back in 2005, I wrote about having bees in the house. Guess what? They're baaaaaaaccck. Rats!

Why can't they go find a nice tree to build a hive in? I've called a bee removal expert, so stay tuned!

POOR! Nevertheless they are worth every penny and I'm so glad you are pleased.

Kenju I need hearing aids, I had my hearing tested at the MD's and I knew it already. The only problem was their aids were way too expensive. I may have to bite the bullet like you did soon.

Good luck

Good for you. I was pleasantly surprised when looking for new glasses at C*stco...because my face is so small the frames they had were all too big and they wouldn't sell me any....strange in a world of gimme, gimme.

Congratrulations Judy...This Is Fantastic! You are the first person I have ever heard say they had no problems getting used to their Hearing Auds from the 'get-0go'...I think that is really wonderful and amazing, too!
I bet being able to HEAR really well again has to be a very exciting thing!

Judy, I didn't know you had hearing loss. Were you exposed to a lot of loud noises? I worry because I was so stupid with loud music when I was younger.

I'm glad it all worked out!

I noticed a few bees going in and out under my siding near the side door. Now I have these nightmares of the entire house becoming one giant hive.

I'm glad to hear there are working for you--lots of people say I need a hearing aid...

as for the bees, I was talking recently to someone down there who was complaining about there not being any bees and fear of crops not being well pollenated.

Judy, I wore hearing aids for about thirty years before finally going completely deaf and requiring Cochlear Implant surgery...and I always hated getting a new one...they were so hard to get used to. It sounds like you have an EXCELLENT programmer if you're liking it so much already!
One of my friends got his hearing aids at C*stco too and he loves them. He got the tiny over the ear ones that are barely visible...I was so jealous because I always had to wear the huge Cadillac ones!
Happy hearing, Judy! :)

Congrats on the new aids - I think you must have found a very knowledgable Dr.
Hope you have as much success with the bees!

Thanks for visiting my Norfolk post.

My SIL got hearing aids when he was about 30. He kept asking my daughter what "that" noise was. She idn't hear anythng. Turns out it was the sound of the refrigerator runnng. He had never heard it, so it was annoying to him. We just block it out. Which he eventually learned to do.

Did you say you have bees AND Rats?! LOL

Wow, the bee story from 2005 sounds like it will need to be repeated. At least you aren't killing them. It is almost a rarity to see a honey bee in this day and age.

So very happy for you. So happy that you found someone like your programmer who was able to really do the job for you.
I have some carpenter bees in my front steps. So far, just a mild nuisance. Good luck with that.

I hate bees. I don't mind other insects, but I hate bees, roaches and flies. We have annoying carpenter bees around the house that make me crazy.

I'm glad for you the hearing aids are working out. My future motherinlaw and good friend who is 87 is very hard of hearing as of late...she hasn't mentioned it, which surprises me, as she is very sharp. I wish I could broach the subject with her, as the hearing is so affecting her otherwise very engaging conversations with us.

Thanks for sharing about this,
Pagan

Congratulations!
And in response to pj's comment, I will never understand why it's not standard for insurance companies to help pay for hearing aids!

I just read the bee post with interest, and that's a LOT of bees that you all had back in 2005! I was stunned!
Recently we saw a show on the Animal Planet about a Miami homeowner who had almost 60,000 bees living in the wall of her master bedroom. They had to remove the drywall to get at the hive. What a mess!

Is it very expensive to have a bee keeper come out to remove the hive?
I'm also wondering just how they keep getting inside the walls like that. Persistent little buggers they are, that must drive you crazy! Good luck!!

This is great information if and when my own time comes. I have some inner ear problems, but can hear pretty well still. I'm glad you have adjusted so easily. My friends who wear them say it's hardest in noisy restaurants and where lots of people are talking at the same time. Have you experienced that yet?

Oh. Bees.
So sorry to hear about that.
I empathize.
