What to Do?

I've been contemplating changing doctors. When I started with my current doc, she had a practice of her own and the office was about 10 miles from here. Six months into it, she left that building and joined a practice that is 18 miles from me. Mr. kenju's doctor, whom I like a lot, is only 5 miles from here, and at current gas prices, a 10 mile round trip is looking a lot better than a 36 mile trip. One advantage to staying with her is that her office is just across the street from Trader Joe's, and I can always go shopping there after a visit. She's pretty to look at, too, and that is always a plus. Mr. kenju's guy may be great at doctoring, but he's not at all pretty! However, he's in a big, beautiful new building and he has nice, friendly nurses.

But now I am reconsidering, because she really knows her stuff. At least this time she did. I thought I had influenza and piggy-backed on to it - a sinus infection. I didn't go to her because I wanted antibiotics, since I thought I had a virus and didn't need them. I went, mainly, because I cannot take decongestants, and I needed advice on what to do so I could breathe. But she disagreed with my self-diagnosis (don't they always?) and gave me an unpronounceable rx, plus advice to take T*lenol Sinus, saline spray and generic fl*nase. Although I complained yesterday about the side effects of the rx, it had another, good effect - which is that I immediately began to feel much better after the first dose! I mean, it was truly amazing. And the bad effects of yesterday have not been repeated, so I am thinking it may not have been caused by the Rx at all. In fact, it might have been the bag of sugar-free Turtles I ate while I was waiting for the prescriptions to be filled.....LOL (Sugar-free doesn't mean fat-free, you know.)

My hair needed a cut so badly that I had begin to look like Einstein (not at all desirable), so I went for a trim and now I resemble a Q-tip. In warm weather, my hair stands on end, no matter what I do to it, so it needs to be shorter this time of year. That way, when it stands up I look fairly normal, and not like I stuck my finger in an electric socket.

The new washer had its maiden voyage today, sans passengers (meaning = no clothing). So far - so good. Tonight it will get a workout!

Good medicine may be worth the extra miles.

Your current physician sounds like she may be young enough to stick with you for a few years--if she doesn't move on to a better situation, for her. When I started going to my current physician about 12 years ago, I told her that she had to agree to stay where she is (at a university clinic where she also teaches) and to not die before I do. I had "lost" 3 physicians in the preceding 5 years--to other cities!

Good luck, whichever way you decide!

Stick with her Judy. The drive will be okay for an occasional visit. And hopefully you will never be chronically ill.

I thgink it is so tough to leave a doctor that you feel really knows you and has also come through for you with a correct diagnosis or two....! But I can certainly understand that Gas prices have become a HUGE Consideration.
But just think Judy, you are able to take care of a secobd need, too, What with Trader Joes....!
Not an easy decision. Hope you are feeling tip top, very soon!

A good doctor is worth their weight in gold...or gas as the case may be.

I'd def. keep your doctor esp, if you feel she's good. We drive 15 miles to ours - we have a clinic 5 minutes away from our house.

Glad you're feeling better and I would definitely stay with the current doctor.

And I understand about the hair situation. In the summer time, my husband says I look like a Chia pet. Don't you just love humidity!

We love our primary care physician. We literally drive 160 miles round trip to our appointments because we can't bear to part with her. She is 43 and she does not give up until she finds a remedy for all our ailments and does not hesitate to refer us to specialists. It pains me to think we might have to give her up because of this high cost of gasoline but we do try to combine trips and take care of lots of other things when we are in Tulsa!

I'd stick with the doctor you like. It's worth the extra mileage for someone you trust so much.

The comment about you looking like Einstein had me snorting coffee through my nose. Too funny. Of course you can't fool me. I've seen a picture of you and you're WAY more beautiful than Einstein...even with an overdue haircut.

A good doctor is worth the trip.
I made a change after Don died, and after a year or so, I went back to the doc I had had for over 25 years, and I'm so glad I did.

That's a difficult one. I would say just go with your gut feeling about who you are most comfortable seeing.

I have a similar hair problem. When it gets humid and warm I get reslly fizzy and I end up with big hair that will not be tamed by anything on the market! It drives me bonkers!

Difficult decision. Once you leave I imagine it would be difficult to go back. Think on it a while.

I agree with the comments that said stick with your doctor.Another point to consider is this. When you reach Medicare age you need to check out these docs to make sure they take Medicare patients. My friend wanted to change to my doctor( I am on Medicare) but he isn't taking any NEW Medicare patients. She found another who did.

Glad things are on the up. A good Dr is worth staying with.

I say stick with your own doctor. She will be worth the miles not only because she is good but is familiar with your history as well.

I'd stick with what you know.

I dunno... Is Two-Buck Chuck worth the extra miles?

But you got me at "she's pretty to look at." Despite the potential for inappropriate "attentiveness" to an attractive female physician, I'd still go for the attractive female physician.

Q-tip hair?
No pictorial evidence??
:-)
I'm glad that what she prescribed worked. You were miserable for far too long.
I'd stick with a good doc even if it means a longer drive.
