Quotes of Note and a Rose

Would you believe that these roses were two weeks old when I took the photos? Well, they were. This is an example of how well flowers will hold up if they are properly conditioned before they are arranged!

They were left-overs from my wedding on December 29th, which I got from my wholesaler on Dec. 27th. I didn't put preservative in the water and nothing special was done to keep them fresh. I took the pic on Jan. 12th.

We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it -- and stop there -- lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove-lid. She will never sit down on a hot stove-lid again, and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one any more.

Mark Twain, author and humorist (1835-1910)

Society is like a stew. If you don't keep it stirred up you get a lot of scum on the top.

Edward Abbey, naturalist and author (1927-1989)

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty.

Albert Einstein, physicist, Nobel laureate (1879-1955)

Beautiful rose. Reminds me of the tiny infant, Gwyneth Rose, in Duke hospital.

Grwat quotes, Judy! I am always impressed with the thigs Einstein says, and always surprised it was HE who said whatever it was...! I sure agree with him.

I so wish you would tell us what the "proper conditing" is...! Or is this somrthing that has to be done by the wholesaler? You know how I love flowers, and Roses in particular....It would be so nice to know how to get Roses to look like these after two weeks!
They look fantastic!!!

Belated congrats on your third anniversary. You are amazing. re flowers do you find temperature affects them? I find they survive longer in the colder rooms and don't like gas fires.

I love white flowers - now between these and srp's I am craving blossoms. I'll have to turn to seed catalogs.

What do you think the wholesaler or the grower did to the roses? I generally use a dip and preservative and sometimes with some stems sear the ends but those are flowers I've grown. I have no luck with roses, too much humidity and black spot.

I look forward to finding out how you condition flowers. I just got some lovely pale purple roses from my hubby, and I followed the directions about cutting the stems and placing them in warm water.
I'd like to know what else I could do to make them last longer.
Those roses you showed are gorgeous!!
