Continuing my quest for funny names, I recently noticed these on a website:
James Judy and his wife, Judee. Can you imagine going through life as Judee Judy? I'm sure glad I'm not. There was a family with the surname Judy in my hometown, but I never dated any of them (luckily).
I haven't written about it in a long time, but I have been collecting funny names since about 1964. Back then, I worked in a hospital, and I was asked to do some research which involved looking through old record books. Those were the days before computers, which make research almost simple. I had to sit for hours, reading through line after line of faded hand-written names and medical information. It wasn't easy, and the only thing that made it bearable was finding a name that made me laugh!
As I poured over the record-keeping of the previous twenty years, I kept noticing names which struck me as funny. I started writing them down - and all these 43 years later - I have a large list, some of which I'll post for you. The original list has expanded to include names I glean from the newspapers and from other sources. I suspect you have heard your share of funny or odd names too, and I'd love to hear about them.

Here are some of the ones I have found through the years; many of which are double entendres or lean toward sexual innuendo. I can't bring myself to print some of them.......LOL
Oh, and by the way, if one of these is a relative of yours.......I'm sorry. I know it isn't nice to make fun, but some of them just scream out for it!

My cousin had a Gynacologist named DR. LECHER...(Not a good name for a OBGYN...!) Another Dr.'s name that I always thought was funny....Dr. Smiley...A Proctologist....LOL....There are more.....I will find the list and come back, Judy....Hopefully, tomorrow.....! Oh Yes! I just thought of another one...Another Proctologist.....DR. SPURT! (Absolutely real.....!)
That's quite a list Judy. I have one for you. My daughter worked with someone in college whose last name was Nipplebreast. I sure hope his first name wasn't Harry.
eeks, I really hate to put this in writing ...but once in a former life (okay it was really just after college but in a very experimental time in my life)...I was married and my name was Tommie Thomas...not too bad except the EX (key word here being EX) husband was Tom Thomas....yes, we were Tom and Tommie Thomas. When I went to get a copy of my divorce decree the secretary there said, "Duh, your name should have been a clue."
Now tell me WHY didn't someone tell ME that! Oh well, live and learn!
Happy weekend, oh yeah, Michelle sent me....wasn't that what I was supposed to say first.
I knew a lady named Iza Bird, and I had a physician named Dr. Payne,
Thanks for the info about the chair! I'm going to look into it!
I have tagged you for a MEME, Judy....It is kind of an interesting one....Mine is up, right now.
Those are just too funny! I wonder how these people go through life with these names!?
I have heard of a General in the army called General Coward.
I had a customer named Ruth Ruth. I never knew if it was her given or her married name.If it was the latter she must have really loved him. I also read an article once about funny names and the one remember from it is Ginger Snaps. That was what her parents named her,
I think I would have a hard time repeating any name you mentioned to the person who has that name without smirking.
By the way, your word verification thought it would get in on the humor. The word verification for this comment is: orwnfucn!
Your list made me laugh, Judy!
There is an OBGYN in this area whose last name is Grab. heh.
I went to school with Iwana Cook.
A builder in Tulsa was named Never Fail. Sad thing....he did. (It was rumored his brother's name was Always.)
Governor candidate in Oklahoma was Larry Derryberry. His wife was Mary. It was fun saying Larry and Mary Derryberry.
I believe it is true that an Oklahoma Governor named Hog had daughters Ima and Ura.
My spouse had a friend named Dick Skinner.
Judy, how fun this was. You always come up with some mind stimulating questions!
Judy ~ My best friend last name is Riser and when they had their first son they were going to name him Earl E. Riser... but they came to their senses (because it was a girl)! ~ jb///
How funny.
I've got a father-in-law named....Harry Barber. When I first started dating my wife I mentioned the irony to her and she claims they had never thought of that. I don't know that I believe her. :)
A great post...thanks!
This is too good. There are many funny names I heard. Only thig, I cannot recall any now!
Michele sent me again.
Rose Budd, not kidding.
For some reason, all the names my best friend in college would tell me of from her Norwegian-heavy home village in South Dakota, made me laugh. I receive a newsletter form her place of work that lists donors and I'm still able to laugh at some of them. I'll have to dig it out to get the proper spelling though.
A small boy at a school where I volunteered named Willie Dye. Now what were those parents thinking?
I know a lady named Judy Judy and another named Mary Merry (both married into their double names). LOL.
Oh, those are just too good, and I love the commnets.
I went to a dentist once named Dr. Butcher.
There is a couple in town here who have the same first name. She was Kim Nuttle, and she married Kim Tuttle, so she is Kim Nuttle Tuttle.
I look forward to what you will share in that MEME, Judy.
Growing up, one of my doctors was named Richard Head.
I went to school with a Jackie Rabbitt, whose father was named Jack - and whose sister was named Bunny.
I wish I was kidding on the last one. As one may predict, Bunny became a hooker.
An acquaintance of mine was doing some genealogical research and discovered a early-American relative named Preserved Fish. I guess back then Preserved was sort of like Hope, Faith, or Charity, a kind of grace name.
And just a few years ago a student visited my workplace. Her name was Summer Thyme. Around the same time someone visiting for a few months was named Saulius Gurnius.
Judy,
I used to instruct new associates on how to make out a proper contract. I didn't want to use real names so I made up them up.
I used names like:
Ann Hyser Bush and her sister Rose.
Penny and Nick L. Pincher
Rhoda and Phil O. Dendrun
The funniest REAL name I knew was a dentist called Dr. Pulz.
Haa Haa! Those are great!
I always cracked up in Florida when I saw a billboard for a plastic surgeon by the name of Dr. Dangle. It was less funny that he got convicted of fraud...
There's always the Hogg sisters, Imma and Eura.
I once has a orthopedist named Dr. Bowns.
And there was the unfortunate David Bader. Nothing funny about his name, exactly, not until he got his 5th degree black belt in TKD and everyone was required to address him as "Master."
Hey, Kenju! Michele sent me today.
No funny names to add to your list, but have you looked at the names of hockey players? They have THE BEST names.
How about North Carolina's own Commisioner of Labor Cherie Berry? Her signature is on every elevator in the state!
I can't think of any names off the top of my head (though, since I talk to about 65 people a day calling in for help with their satellite tv as my job, I do often see some funny ones come through)When I was growing up new neighbors moved in on one side of us & their last name was Beck, my father loved to tease me & tell me that I should move next door so I could be known as Becky Beck.
Michele sent me to visit today & get a giggle out of your names list & to answer your question on my blog, we got rear ended back in October but the insurance money had to be used for other things (like my hot water heater exploding in my basement & filling the basement with water!) & so trading in the car for something newer made the best sense to me (the car had 145k miles on it at trade & was getting extremely unstable)
I just read Becky68'S comment and darned if she hasn't reminded me of something I had forgotten years ago. Well, I thought I had forgotten it, but apparently not; so here goes.
My brother had a girlfriend named Trudy Ann Sass, and I loved to tease him by asking," Did you ever kiss Trudy Ann Sass ???
its hard to believe people would name their kids some of these names! The best one I ever saw was "Ona Littlejohn"
Judy...Here are some more funny names that Betty has been collecting for years...
She had a Urologist named "DR. GETSOFF...Betty Bloomer, someone she was in dance class with back in the day...who married Gerald Ford...and yes, became Betty Ford...Yup...THAT Betty Ford.
Ole Oleson's daughter, (He was the great comic, Moira, married Bill Lear..The Lear Jet guy...they had a daughter and named her SHANDRA...(lol)...And here were three names of town in New Jersey...Peapack, Buttsville, and Assenpink Creek!
I think my very favorite has always been DR. GETSOFF! LOL!

Ya know, I used to collect them, and misplaced my list. But I remember laughing til my eyes teared. My favorite on this list is S. Moochly Small. :) The kind of name you just can't make up. Of course, I love making up names. My favorite name I've made up: Eulalie Flatbush McTwistee.
