You Just Can't Make This Stuff Up!

If I sat here for weeks and tried to think of combinations to make you laugh, I couldn't come up with the likes of these! My apologies to the real people behind the announcements, but darn it all, didn't you think about this before you got engaged?

I have, as some of you know, a collection of funny and odd names that I have been amassing for almost 40 years. I have an announcement of a woman named Truly Gold, who married Cary S. Boring - so now she is Truly Boring!

Then there was one from Beverly Hills, CA: Chandler Louise Cooke married Patrick Chandler - so she's Chandler Chandler. I wonder what clerks say when she has to give her name?

A few others in my collection are: Shannon Lay Offut and Melissa Getzoff Daly.
And for those who ask, they came in an email from an old friend!

What a great morning hoot! I'm partial to looney-warde and hardy-harr. These are way betterh than Rose Budd and Ima and Ura Hogg.

My father-in-law used to collect names from phone books as he traveled. Ima Pigg was at the top of the list.

Ahahahahaaa!!!

Proof that love knows no boundaries. Fortunately, these unfortunate name combinations need only be seen ONCe in the public domain, then tey can revert to being a family joke forEVER.

I once worked with a rather beautiful young woman who was highly intelligent but totally stressed out by her job. She always used to joke that what she REALLY wanted in life was to find a rich man and live a life of leisure.

I didn't see her for a while, but one evening bumped into her at a restaurant/bar. She saw me and came over to tell me she was now engaged. She showed us her engagement ring - a huge chunk of diamond. I congratulated her, and she called her fiance over to introduce him to me and my friend.

"Meet my finance, Charles Rich," she said, and I ONLY JUST didn't snort.

(I don't know how it worked out, but I'm pretty sure she was happy. She had a talent for happiness. And she'd certainly found the right man - he lived up to his surname AND was a genuinely nice guy.)

I wonder if any of them go to the lengths of changing their name by deed poll?

Too funny. I had a friend whose cousin's had the surname of Strange. When the cousin and her husband had a baby, the newspaper announcement read, "Strange Baby Born". That's one for the baby book. :-)

Thanks for the tip, Judy. These are terrific. I even burst into laugh song when I read Hardy-Harr and Poore-Sapp.

I love these as well... I also got these (or a link to a blog, I can't remember which) from a friend as well!

Isn't it amazing how close the web brings us all together, even if miles/klms apart!!

Thanks for stopping by, (Michele didn't send me this time, but she might send me back later!!!)

Hello, Michelle sent me.

I recently received this in an email and found it funny too. But their mistake was not in getting engaged but making announcements in the paper (or letting their friends do it)

Jay Leno does these weird name things every once in a while....I love them.

Cracked me up. But my skeptical side wonders... photoshop is so handy.

Hardy-Har cracked me up. I once knew a couple who were Erin and Aaron, and that was a little confusing.
