They've Flown the Coop

They're gone. The babies have fledged and abandoned the nest, but they left behind a small souvenier.

I'm sorry that I didn't get more photos of them for you. I did poke my head out the front door on Wednesday, to check their progress. I saw a small beak and eyes looking at me, but I didn't have time to grab the camera then. When I went out Saturday to check, I found the nest empty, except for the egg. Farewell, little birdies and remember........"You CAN come home again!"

They grow up and leave so quickly, don't they. David just came home, and as he was holding Ella, said, "It's hard to believe that she's my daughter. Now she's my baby, then she'll be my little girl, then my teenager." It all goes so quickly.

poof! They're gone!

Thanks for the stop by.
"hardy" that would be the word needed to survive my backyard.
I wonder how they got there? I've been here 2 years, this is the first I've seen them, and I sure didn't plant anything!
THANKS!

I am always both happy and sad when my swallows leave. We have for the last 4 years said we would clean out the box but are afraid if we mess with it they might not want to stay in it....what wonderful pics you did get...and a little gift as well for your hospitality.

That one egg is so sweet and yet so lonely, too! Sorry you missed their growth with your camera Judy....Maybe some others will come and use that nest again.

Only OUR babies take some twenty years to leave the nest! Good luck to those birdies.

Save the nest. Gently clean it. Save it for your Christmas tree. It's for good luck. I am waiting to find one (or more) this year because I want to put red birds in them for my tree.

What a wonderful metaphor for our kiddos leaving the nest--and returning again and again--and then the children's children returning. Blitz Krieg says year five or six for theirs. Watch out! Loved your interview questions, too.
