New Baby Bird Pics

When I got home from work on Saturday, I stopped in the front yard to pluck a few dandelions, and was very heartened to hear the mother bird fly over my head to her nest on the porch. I looked up and saw a small brownish bird, probably a wren. I am not as familiar with bird varieties as I should be.

It is obvious in these pics that the mother has not abandoned the babies, because as you can see, there is a lot of crap around the edges. In fact, I would say this mother is a prodigious crapper! I usually try to save all the nests I find, but this one (and the basket) will be dumped as soon as it is vacated. EW!

These photos were taken last Friday afternoon, and the babies had their eyes open, at least the ones I could see did. Our weather has warmed a little since I first found the nest and it appears that all is well in birdland.

I don't know how many other pics I will be able to get. I have to remove the basket from the wall to get the pics, and I don't want to disturb the mother if I can help it. If the opportunity presents itself, I will snap what I can.

That IS a messy nest. I wonder if it keeps other birds away or predators of some sort.

They are such ugly little things, aren't they. I can understand your getting rid of the nest.

Well, I've survived my first day of taking care of Ella. We got along quite well. She is a very good natured baby.

The weather here has been pretty nice today, although I didn't stick my head out the door.

What adorable babies these are, crap and all. What kind of camera do you use, Kenju?

Aw Kenju. Thanks for the baby birds. That's exactly what we need to see today. Well, except for the poopies...I've had enough of them with my new puppy. ;)

Watch out for the Momma! You don't want her to dive down across your head! :)
It'll be fun to see them grow up and leave the nest without even becoming teenagers.

They are adorable...even amidst the crap. I guess it must be a deterrent for anyone looking to nose around.

'Round here, all I've got is mocking birds and I'll tell you, they are none to friendly. They get darn close to Alfred Hitchcock-y when I sit on my front porch this time of year, I can't figure out where their nest is but it must be close by and they want me nowhere near it!

I am so pleased the baby birds are doing well :-)

I suspect it is the babies that are pooing over the edge of the nest!

I like your sluething about the care they are receiving based on all the crap. There is something really funny in that.

I think that they are so ugly, they are adorable. If that makes any sense.

Nah- the mother is not a prodigious crapper- she is just a tidy soul. That is what they do with the baby birds poop- pave the nest with it. When my finches in the aviary finally fledged the nest it would be one solid mass of guano. GREAT photos, Judy- and I'm hoping you can get more. I love them.

How adorable.... the botanical garden has three bald eagle chicks or eaglets as they are calling them. It is so amazing to see those immense birds soaring over the large trees. We have no nests or birds laying eggs yet.
