Caviar Dreams

I just heard a quick blurb on the news about the most expensive dinner ever served. It happened recently in Thailand, and it featured 10 courses, with the finest caviar, wine and foods flown in from around the world.

Guess how much it cost per person? Would you believe $25 thousand dollars each, not counting tax and tip? Read about it here:

I remembered the post I had earlier this week on my old blog - Just Ask Judy - about the foods being served for the buffet at the Oscar's Ball.. Some people who commented were appalled at the amazing amounts and varieties of foods being served.....as was I. But this dinner certainly tops that one for disgusting conspicuous consumption (pun intended!) I doubt that the Oscar's producers spent that much per person for the buffet. Think how many starving people could have been fed with that money!

I worked at the flower shop Tues. from 8:30am to 4:00 pm, with only a 15 minute break for lunch. People were calling and coming in the shop in droves to order Valentine's flowers/candy/stuffed animals for their sweeties. Wednesday will be a killer of a day because all the men who stupidly didn't think to order early will be frantically trying to get red roses - and we will likely have sold out of everything but orange and yellow. Happens every year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the women at the shop was asked to put a blackboard sign with a message about Valentine's Day on the sidewalk in front of the shop. She wrote: "It's not too late!" and a woman passing by on the street told her that the word "too" was spelled wrong. She came back inside to verify her spelling, and of course, we all told her she was correct. I wanted to run out, find that woman and tell her how wrong she was - but I restrained myself.....LOL. It was hard to do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I heard the shop owner on the phone, and he answered the person on the other end of the line with "Well, Sir, that is pretty much all we do." I was curious about what the guy had said, and the boss told me: "I don't want flowers, plants, candy or stuffed animals. What else can you do for me?" Why did the guy call a flower shop if he didn't want anything we sell? Beats me.

I do hope your sweetie treats you well this Valentine's Day!

Sophie would like this; McCloud, too. No caviar for me, thanks. I did like the Oscar menu earlier this week at the old place- and although I changed your address in my blog roll I've been back a couple times, just to see where you were.

I was reading the label on a can of Fancy Feast tonight and thought that 90% of the world would be grateful for such a meal- sigh.

This time of year, when I read your posts, I always remember the time I spent working at the florist shop while in college- I detested stripping rose thorns the week of Valentines. I hope you have a happy day when you're done wrestling the flowers.

That is amazing that that man called a Flower Shop but didn't want anything that the shop offers! Go figure! I have to go read about that dinner...I had to laugh when you said that the total was without Tax or Tip....! So, what kind of tip does one leave for a $25,000 per person dinner?? 20%? LOL!
A VERY HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO YOU AND MR. KENJU, My Dear Judy

Happy St Valentine's Day to you on this difficult week, Judy. I hope you're able to get a lot of rest after today!

I can't imagine paying $25k for a meal--especially one that featured salty fish eggs. Nasty.

I'm with you. Shameful to spend that amount of money on food for a happy (?) few when people have no roof over their heads.

Yes...they had a snippet about that most expensive meal on the national news a couple of nights ago.

Happy Valentine's Day to you and Mr. Kenju. Beware when you get home from the florist shop this evening....he may be lurking behind the couch in his yellow neon suit! LOL

The loving wife and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day. (Her call.) I do get something for my daughter every year.

Eats, Shoots & Leaves is a great book on the misuse of punctuation and also discusses homophones.

KJ: The last two photos today are the net around my daughter's trampoline.

Damn Judy, Neosporin with pain meds in it? If you had only told me a few days earlier I would have braved the snow and cold to get some. I did pack those bandaids with neosporin on the pad, my water pick finally got smashed into the suitcase and I took one of those heat pads you can nuke...except for the stuff you told me about I think I have my bases covered. See you next week! Happy heart day and don't work too hard.

I work across the street from a flower shop. It has been madness for days. No place to park, people turning against traffic to get a better spot. Insanity - all for flowers that will be dead in days.

Maybe he thought you could pull rabbits from hats - that sort of thing?! Bizzarre man!

That is a disgusting amount to spend on food. I can't help but wonder how much the price was artificaially raised because the suppliers knew the pople could and would pay.

Happy Valentines to you.

When you have so much money that cost never really matters I guess you tend to treat it with little respect.

Does a florist want flowers for Valentine's Day?

Happy Heart Day!

Happy Valentine's Day Judy!

That food is insane! Well, not the food, the people who purchased it, hehe!

P.S. When you grab a moment, pop over and look at my dining room pics. I need a centerpiece and not sure what type container would look best w/style of room. Something English or Colonial maybe? Thanks!!

I'm laughing at the guy who wanted something more... what on earth was he hoping for? A four-course dinner delivered to his house? A singing gorilla-gram? New gutters? lol

$25,000! Wow. And I thought our $200 dinner in Hawaii was expensive.

I prefer Orange roses to red. :)

Judy,
I woke up this morning and thought "Valentine's Day, poor Judy! Just goes to show how long we have been reading each other's blogs.

Have a quiet, peaceful Valentine's Day evening with your hubby.

I once had a similar experience when a board member visited my classroom and told me I had misspelled a word. He was so convincing that I changed it and after he left, I ran to the teacher's lounge to ask other's. I was correct, but I also had sense enough not to correct a pompous member of the School Board.

Maybe they guy wanted caviar! That dinner is really out of the scope. :-)

What else would you get from a florist? Jewelry? Sometimes it makes you shake your head and wonder what planet people are really on... altered reality.

I love the geezer sign... how funny! I feel that way too and I didn't work making flower arrangements all day either. Notice that I did spell "too" correctly. ;)
