The 235th Celebration of Our Independence

Yesterday we hosted two of our kids and five of our grand kids for swimming and deck time. I cooked brats** and hotdogs, made potato salad (thanks Sandra and Billy - the potatoes are great!), baked beans and all the trimmings. My daughter-in-law sent a chocolate eclair cake (to die for).  I still didn't make it into the pool, and by 4pm it was thundering steadily. It didn't quit until around 9pm. After sitting on the deck for almost three hours in 99* heat, I don't know who was roasted more - us or the brats!

We watched "A Capitol Fourth" and Macy's Fireworks and I am all out of celebrations at this point. Hope your Fourth of July was memorable!

Today is haircut day (it couldn't have come a minute too soon!)

** short for bratwurst.

Sounds a great day - if a rifle hot!

But what are brats??

Sounds like you kept up the good old American tradition in fine style.

What a lovely day! I've never had a bratwurst sausage but it's my aunt's favourite summer treat.

We had friends call to meet them at a restaurant. It was hot. No one wanted to cook. So we did and had great fellowship.

Your celebration is like one I can only remember. I did watch both of the fireworks displays and followed it up with the Boston Pops 4th of July celebration. That was overkill.

Sounds like a great if hot day. Sorry you didn't make the pool.
Guess some thought you cooked the kids that didn't please you:))
I love brats or at least did before I went veggie nuts.

Sounds great, Judy! I watched most of a local telecast that was a repeat of a celebration in Kansas City MO on Memorial Day. (I couldn't tell the difference in the fireworks from the 4th!)

The KC symphony played outside - across from the mall around Liberty Memorial. One of the later pieces that the symphony played was the Overture from 1812 - featuring live canons on the Liberty Memorial Mall. Unfortunately, the accoustics were not that great; but, perhaps it was more impressive in person.
