Quotes of Note

To know how to say what other people only think is what makes men poets and sages; and to dare to say what others only dare to think, makes men martyrs or reformers, or both.

Elizabeth Rundle Charles, writer (1828-1896)

In this world there are only two tragedies. One is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it. The last is much the worst.

Oscar Wilde, writer (1854-1900)

At the beginning of the movie "The Big Chill"... a funeral is in progress...Kevin Costner essentially was cut from the film.. he played the corpse.... and JoBeth Williams ( a close friend) came forward to play his requested favorite song on a big pipe organ. The song... Rolling Stones.... You can't always get what you want... no, you can't always get what you want... but if you try sometimes, you just might find... you get what you need.

Any time any one says.. you can't always get what you want... that scene and the music pops into my head. It is amazing to me what manages to really get into your brain and imprint there.

Good old Oscar, I'm with him on that one!

Be careful what you wish for ;-)

ummm, very interesting...I like the quote about the two tragedies; isn't that the balance of a parent; giving your children what they want, and giving them too much?
I was pleased to see you could leave a comment on my blog again :)
Have a great evening!

People always say be careful what you wish for but so far, I haven't been burned by poor wishing. Toes are crossed that stays true.

The second quote in other words is "be careful what you pray for".

Loved the quotes. Like srp the Rolling Stones song always comes mind. I have a habit of singing it quite often (lol)
