From 1939...

The inside cover of my first reading primer. I would have asked permission, but I doubt any of them are still around....lol

When I was in elementary school, I always wondered if I would end up with a guy named Jim. It must have been a foregone conclusion. And you know what? Judy is still going faster!

I've always loved the illustrations in this book. There is no mention of who the artist was.

I love the illustrations too. Well, you may go faster than your husband but he caught up with you once ... and you've stayed married for a long time ... a real accomplishment in this day and age.

Boy that reader brings back some real memories.

"Run, Judy, run!"

Love the primer. In those days we were taught by rote not by phoenetics. (and most of us are better spellers because of it! LOL)

That is too cute! And quite prophetic, too!

Great illustrations, made me want to be an illustrator when I was kid. What a little treasure you have.

Lots of really great artists had contracts with book publishers and were kept busy on books like Dick and Jane.

Just like it was. They are delightful.

Judy and Jim...how precious is that. I find that many early books do not give credit to the illustrators.

They don't put that much detail in the illustrations in todays books.... what a wonderful artist. I found a link that said it was illustrated by Cyrus LeRoy Baldridge, Charles B. Falls and others. Vintage School Books

Beautiful! I miss that old style of art. I wish there was more of it around.

I am way behind with blog reading since my holiday. I hope you don't think I abandoned you.

I wish that we had school books like that. I might have ended up with a love of reading.
