Budding Artists, Part One

I went to visit my daughter and her family yesterday and I was blown away when my 14 year old granddaughter showed me some of her work from art class. If you look closely, you'll see "John, Paul, George and Ringo - and the yellow submarine!

This is her self portrait (she's much prettier). She is a swimmer and soccer player, and I'd add artist to those descriptions!! Please join me in urging her to keep up with her art. Her mom didn't, and she was almost as talented.

Tomorrow, I will show you what her 11 year old sister can do. They both make me say  WOW!

WOW! - She has a great future in art if she keeps it up. Wonderful what the art teachers are able to inspire our young people to do - and they (politicians) want to cut them from school. Tell her I said to keep on creating and thank you for sharing.

Very impressive. My daughter is artistic and had a lot of encouragement from her high school art teachers--until the art program was gutted by budget cuts. She certainly gets some of that talent from you with your eye for floral design.

Wow. That is really good. She has talent. I hope she keeps it up. If not as a career, then to express herself.

I enjoyed these very much. Let her know for me!

Oh my. You might like to look closely at some of the things I did in Photoshop in the second movie I made this morning.

Here is a link to my 2nd movie. I am learning. I want to add sound but don't yet know how to do that.

I am surprised they still have art in schools there, a lot of places don't.

Clearly she is developing a style and that is the hardest for an artist to find, I think.

Must have their grandmom's creative genes too! Glad they have art in school. We have a volunteer program here that teaches art history and hands art to make up for the cuts.

That is very impressive....

I'm with Celia. The creative genes have come down from 'Gran' I do hope this young lady keeps going as a hobby if not a career. I always encourage youngsters to have a hobby that can be turned into a career in later life.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them in any reputable gallery.
The bottom one reminds me of Gaugin.
Paul Gauguin
Post-Impressionist Artist
1848 - 1903
'Life is merely a fraction of a second.
An infinitely small amount of time to fulfill
our desires, our dreams, our passions.'

—Paul Gauguin
He had a very interesting life. Did you see the old film 'The Moon and Sixpence'? It might inspire her.
But I know her Grandma will encourage her.

She is quite good and I think she fell pretty close to the tree. What you do is also artistic creation.
I do hope she continues with that talent and I hope the schools continue to offer such programs.
Sadly, they are the first to go in a bad economy.

She is in fact already an artist. Nothing can take away her natural ability and she has no where to go but up.

So happy to have found you! Native N. Carolinian here, temporarily misplaced for the past 21 years.

If I have regrets--and just imagine what I'm leaving out--it would be that I never took art classes until Meredith, and just the one at that. I have enormous art envy. I'll live vicariously through yours and your family's, if you don't mind.

Incredible work! That sheep calls to me...
