NC State Capitol

The view into the rotunda. Read here about the building.

One of four trees placed in niches on the second floor. All were decorated with ornaments made by NC school children. This tree had hand-painted, hand-made ceramic balls which were quite lovely. It's too bad they don't show up well in my photo.

In the center of the rotunda, sits Antonio Canova's rendition of George Washington. Everyone wonders why he chose to portray George as a Roman General.  See the plaque below for an to enlarge.

It all looks very airy. Do you manage to keep warm? Can't be easy working with cold fingers.

I didn't know or remember the story of the statue... but it's been decades since I've been there. Nice idea of using student's decorations.

I would never have recognized Washington's image and find it quite strange.
Love the trees with the ornaments made by the children of NC. Wonderful idea.
Your craft takes you to some neat places.

I wonder what George Washington would think of this statue... perhaps he would at least get a chuckle to see what the artist's impression was.
Were there just four trees in the building or were the four from your group and then others bringing in more as well?

I love the Christmas tree tucked behind George; it's almost as if its in hiding, waiting to appear...gosh, you are a busy lady!
