Whatever Happened to.....

Laura Ashley?  Remember dresses like these? They are from a 1990 catalog I found in my daughter's room when I cleaned it out last spring.

I love these sundresses - even though I can't wear things like this any more.

This one looks a little dated, but most of the things in the catalog are timeless designs and could still be worn today without anyone thinking they were too old and out of style. Do you have any Laura Ashley in your closet?

Ohhh, I love those dresses (although I never wore sundresses like the ones pictured!). L Ashely even had a store in Barcelona, a beautiful one, I loved going there just to look at wonderful things. I remember I tried on a long navy blue silk dress once, which was a dream! but didn't fit in my budget nor in my social activities :)

What DID Happen to Laura Ashley?? You never hear that name anymore. Did she go out of business OR was her Business SOLD to some larger company that renamed the whole thing....!
And no. I was never a Laura Ashley girl....I appreciated her things but they just weren't "me"...!

Haven't you looked at old photographs of yourself and wondered why you ever got rid of whatever you are wearing? It seems we have a lot of things that will go into the ages with us but we just don't know it soon enough

Like you, I don't wear garments like that anymore however, I think Laura AShley is hiding inside me wishing I were still able to wear those dresses again!...innocence!

I used to be a HUGE LA fan. When we moved to Istanbul I even found a knock-off Laura Ashley fabric store! Mostly home decor stuff. I happily had drapes made by a local sewer for our bedrooms, to match the ones in the book I had taken along with me, I was pretty excited. I did the traditional satin and tulle in the salon and sitting room. But yes, I used to make LA style dresses for my daughter and myself. You know that top lavender number is still very beautiful to me.

Such a tragedy when she died.
When we moved in here - 25 years ago - I bought Laura Ashley curtains for the drawing room, the dining
room and two bedrooms. As they are all double aspect with huge windows they cost the earth but you know what- they are still going strong.

Funny, I was just looking at some LA sheets on Overstock.com, and wondered who is running the product these days. Loved those dresses too although they really weren't my style either.

Laura Ashley makes me think of tiny floral prints.

Don't have any but wouldn't mind. Don't know about those sundresses however. Takes better arms than I have to pull that off.

I don't have LA but have been buying dresses this past year - maybe just sentimental.

I sometimes find sheets and bedding in stores, but you're right, I don't see apparel around much anymore.

She made some gorgeous wedding dresses back in the '70's too.

I love this style. Unfortunately, I don't know what happen to Laura Ashley or my slim, cute little size 10 self that worn those dresses. I wish dressing up would return.

Laura Ashley died of a brain haemorrhage suffered ten days after she fell down the stairs of her daughter's home on her 60th birthday in 1985. Home furnishings are now the most profitable part of the business.
