These things really work! How do I know? I bought a pair this week and the first time I put them on, I lost five pounds (and threw my back out) trying to hoist them up over my bowl-full-of-jelly belly!

Of course, if I were still built like the woman in the drawing on the package, I wouldn't need a body shaper.....lol. I think they need a "before and after" drawing, don't you?

Why not? I have read young stars wear those too, there are even pictures which prove that! not the ones they wanted to have taken, though...like showing under a mini skirt!

I wore those once at a staff do. I had to take them off as they were so uncomfortable after eating dinner. I have a photograph of a friend wearing them on her head before they were consigned to the bin. :)

Nice to find something that actually works!

These body shapers are all very well - but where does our extra flesh go to?? In my case it would bulge above and below!! :(

And as you say, if I had a figure like the ad I'd never go near a body shaper!

I have a flesh coloured pair so I look like a small pink elephant.
I have never actually ventured out in them. Reason being I have a thing about public loos and the idea of struggling to get them down and then up again worries me.
I'll give then another go - maybe on our anniversary dinner.

Oh NOOOOO, the girdle has returned. Sorry but my belly fat is just going to have to keep time with my Ipod. I have finally reached the age where comfort trumps looks. Ahhhhhh.

Thank you for this factual post. I too almost killed myself trying to put on a pair of those things. Perhaps we can sue someone. Isn't that how we should proceed in America?

I hate trying to get these things around my sagging skin. When you are heavy but younger you fat is firm!

Yes, where does the excess go? You don't have much excess, if any.. but most of us have more than we would like to admit.

AHHH, even Oprah wears one! so perhaps you are in good company?

Thank you for the laughter!

Those would probably work beautifully for some people, but I'm afraid they wouldn't be enough for me. It would be like putting my finger in the hole in the dyke....not quite the answer.

When I was younger I didn't have any idea why women would subject themselves to so much "unnecessary" elastic. Now that I'm heading into middle age, I half-accidentally bought myself a pair of trousers with a tummy control panel (just liked the pants, wasn't looking for slimming specifically), and glory be, it's a freaking miracle! I've been converted.

I used to wear those--and remember the merry widows we wore? My mom had a full-on boned corset she wore to my wedding. I guess they still make the slimming girdles, hum?
