Here Come De Judge*... but not 'til January

The call came at 4:45pm Thursday - and it was not to ask me to appear now, but to tell me that the case has been 'continued' to  late January, 2011. Meanwhile, this guy will probably continue to drive without a license. I don't understand the court system at all, except I know they are woefully understaffed and somewhat at the mercy of slick attorneys who know every trick in the book to get things delayed. Add that to an already backed up court system, and you have chaos all around.

I will be receiving a subpoena in advance, which is good for planning ahead. Since my January's are usually quiet at work, I will likely have no problem making the court date.

The menu last night consisted of pork chops marsala (with a secret in the sauce), mashed sweet potatoes, steamed fresh broccoli and hot biscuits. I must confess that the sweet potatoes were made by Bob Evans.  I use very few prepared foods, but those (and the regular mashed potatoes) are some I cannot do without. They are nearly as good as anything I could make from scratch and take much less time and energy for just two people. I should also confess that the biscuits came from Bojangles. I buy a box of twelve at a time; freeze them and thaw and serve a few at a time.

For the chops, I make a gravy from the skillet leavings with butter, hot water and a beef bouillion cube; adding 3 tablespoons of marsala wine while scraping the skillet and cooking down until it thickens a bit. The secret ingredient was coffee! I was too lazy to take the time to boil 1/4 cup of water, so I used fresh, hot black coffee to melt the bouillion and it was fine! I thought I might be able to tell a difference in the sauce, but it was just the same. I guess I saved a bit of energy there (not mine - the electricity!  LOL)

Never, ever thought of putting coffee into gravy! Must try it sometime when no one's looking!

Shame about the court case. Its much the same over here in the UK. Takes for ever for some things to come to court!

We never missed an episode of Laugh In. It seemed to make the whole country laugh. I can't think of anything that is that funny these days.

Speaking of wine (well, I know you really weren't but you did mention wine) have you tasted Choco Vine Rasberry?

Sounds like a good meal to me. I never thought about buying sweet potatoes from Bob Evans. That is a great idea.

Sounds like a great meal. You-all better take a long walk after that luscious food. Our legal system seems to get worse every decade.

Don't know why they don't follow up on people with suspended licenses. Bust him every time he pulls out of the drive way. Oh well.
I tried those Bob Evans sweet potatoes and found dark hard things in them(didn't look that close for I was afraid what I would see) Threw out the whole thing. Maybe I just had a bad batch but I haven't been able to go back to them.
Otherwise, meal sounded yummy.

Sounds good. There is something about this time of year that makes one just crave warm creamy things.

My sister was rear-ended last week at a road construction site by a man who apparently ignored the fact that traffic was at a dead stop in front of him. He admitted going 50, so my bet is he was actually going much faster. He was given a warning, no ticket. What's that about?

Bob Evans does have good stuff. I haven't ever bought any of their frozen food at the store, but I eat at BE often. Their macaroni and cheese is divine.

Sounds like a good dinner!

I always watched Laugh In too...funny, funny show.

We had mashed sweet taters last night too - with butter and brown sugar and cream mashed in, then topped with a drizzle of pancake syrup. MMmm.

Your recipe sounds delish. Must try!

I am intrigued by the use of coffee in the sauce. I am sure going to try that one. You have a great blog. Glad I came by, God bless, Dr. Bobbi

I work in a medical facility that deals with many people who have chronic pain subsequent to a motor vehicle accident. That bad driver definitely needs to get taught a lesson! Even accidents that don't appear serious can cause chronic pain that destroys lives.

I must have missed some posts that explains the judge thing... Oh well, I was traveling and yes, I was at Arenal (but didn't get to see the volcano). The pork chops sound great!

You have run into one of the big problems with our justice system.... delays, continuances and too many technicalities. I wonder how many people loose life and limb because of delayed punishment of true criminals.

Seems like nothing ever is simple with court cases -- delays, etc.

"Laugh In" was a favorite of mine. Sweet potatoes with brown sugar a favorite. I remember Bob Evans foods -- started out in Ohio, I think -- and thot they were pretty good. Don't see them out here in So. Cal.
