Halloween Approaches

Blogger will only let me upload one photo tonight - so this is it. My dining room table display during October. Simple and to the point! My two black cats don't much care for their papier mache counterpart, and they view the witch with their eyes in narrow slits. The ceramic pumpkin (one of my favorite gifts...thanks Adair and Jeff!) has sharp points with which to scratch furry faces, so it merits their approval.

I can seldom place a vase of flowers on this table - it gets mysteriously knocked over - the water gets lapped up with relish, as though it were somehow different than the tap water placed in their bowl daily. What is it with cats anyway?  Mine will drink water from anywhere but their bowl. The only thing they do with the bowl is knock it around until the water spills, and then they drink it from the floor. (And don't tell me the bowl is dirty! It gets cleaned everyday. well, maybe that's the problem.....lol). I knew of a guy once who never washed his coffee cup; said the coffee tasted better in a dirty cup. Maybe my cats subscribe to that theory.

We don't celebrate Halloween here, but your comments about the cats made me laugh! My two never drank out of their drinking bowls either!

I love your Halloween display, especially the black cat.

My cats are as good as gold where their drinking water is concerned. They will drink straight from their bowl. However, my previous cat, Bob would only drink water from a beaker on the side of the bath!

Very eye catching.

Love your decorations though sorry Blogger is being so miserly.
One of my cats prefers toilet water so I have to keep the lid down. He gets his feet wet getting a drink and tracks it around.
Go figure cats and their water. I did get one of those cat water fountains and they drank like they had just spent a day in the desert. They love it.

Love the display. Halloween is my favorite holiday, as you know! :-) I once read (don't know if it's true) that cats have such a keen sense of smell, they like somewhat stagnant water they can smell as opposed to fresh tap water, which lacks a distinct smell. Like I said, don't know if it's true, but if it is, it clears up that question of why they drink from the toilet, the floor, etc.

If you figure out the inner workings of the feline mind, you can definitely write a book and become famous. My cat would drink water from his bowl, but he would take mouthfuls of food and drop it on the floor before eating it. Not on the easily swept up kitchen floor near his dish. No, he had to drag it into the dining room and drop it on the rug.

As for the cats... I have caught them with their heads deep into a large cup to the point they were almost stuck. Then I found those fountains that filter the water and it runs out of the top into the collector bowl and they love them. The love to drink out of a faucet dripping and this is just like that.

I was surprised to see that they are having the trick or treating on Sunday. Everywhere else I have lived through the years, even in VB, if Halloween fell on Sunday, the kids would go for candy on Saturday. We are so far back in the neighborhood that very few kids come this far. I really am not in the mood to decorate this year so if I get a couple of pots of mums on the porch it will be a success. I love yours though.

Both of my cats used to turn the water dish over - I decided it was a form of acting out. I finally bought one of those no tip bowls that is actually for a dog. :)

My in laws had cats, they would drink nothing but distilled water. They were a hoot :)

Yay! Hallowe'en time is one of my favourite times. And you have two black cats? That's got to be double-good luck.

I'm not sold on the idea of drinking coffee from a dirty cup. No ma'am.
