How Hot Is It?

Hot enough to melt me, that's for certain. I've felt wilted before, but this stretch of hot weather takes the prize for being the worst in recent memory. It drains me to the extent that I have no interest in doing much of anything. I left the house with mr. kenju this morning at 10:30am for an appointment. We had lunch and then I brought him back home. After checking email, I went back out to run errands, which took me to two Targets, Sam's Club, Ross Dress for Less and Office Max. By the time I got back home, after traipsing around in 98* with humidity to match, I was a veritable puddle. What on earth will it be like in August??? I'm not sure I want to find out.

And all that shopping (three hours) netted me with exactly two things: a wire whisk and an anniversary card.

The new ovens work like a charm, so far. Because of the heat, I haven't wanted to use them, but I made garlic bread last night and toasted hamburger buns tonight and they both did what they were supposed to. After promising the oven installer I would, I called Sears to tell them what a good job he did and how nice he was. I left messages for the salesman and the department manager, asking them to call me. That was Monday afternoon, and neither has returned my call. What would you do? I'm thinking of writing the head of the company, just to let them know what crappy service many of their employees give.

My trips to twoTargets today were to find, if possible, some more chairs like the ones I bought about a month ago. As usual, I was not lucky. Apparently, the $17 sale price caused a rush and they sold out. It was stupid of me not to buy more of them at the time, but I was hit with an attack of conscience about spending that week and limited myself to two chairs. I wish I had six more - and one daughter wants some too. Now that our deck furniture is suffering from dry rot - we need more chairs. We bought a very nice set of Brown-Jordan when we moved to this house, 28 years ago; umbrella table, 4 chairs, chaise lounge, small table and a bouncy/rocking chair. Except for some rust on the metal frames, they have done well even though they have sat out in the weather 365 days per year with no protection from the elements. The seats and backs are made of a woven "fabric" called Textilene (or something like that). I can't believe they lasted 28 years without falling apart, and I suppose it is a testament to the quality of the product. It was stupid of me not to buy covers for use in the winter. Hindsight is good, huh?

My advice for a heat wave is: do only the bare minimum, have a siesta and do any vital stuff before the sun rises and after sunset.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

I don't think I could be doing with your temperatures and humidity - I'm sure I would have curled up and died!!

Its hot enough here for me, can't get cool. But of course we don't have air cond in the UK!!

We'd bought a load of kitchen china a year ago, and through total laziness didn't get everything we needed. I thought I ought to check if they were still selling it, I found that it was on sale and a few bits were sold out. I got as much as I could on-line and then rushed out to the store to see if they still had any of the stock sitting in the shop. They did, and I managed to complete everything we needed. And it was all very cheap to buy! Now that's what I call a good shop.

My mother calls me a lucky shopper and I am. If I say I'm looking for a pair of high top sneakers in white and black, I'll find them somewhere and normally in the sale. :D

Catching up on all the posts I have missed. I am sorry I have been so bad about getting over here Judy---much going on here with lots of Personal Business to take care of and no energy for much of anything...

LOVE the pictures of The Flower Shuttle place and all the lovely arrangements. I have said it before---I can see how truly satisfying this must be, and the wonderful comraderie of everyone, knowing you are creating lovely floral pieces for people who will truly truly appreciate them....It has to do your heart good!

Congrats on your new Ovens, my dear.
There does seem to be a strange lackidasical attitude about people getting back to you these days....I have been waiting for three different important return calls and I find it not only frustrating but rude, too!
I guess that's life now, isn't it?

Covrs on and covers off. That itself is a pain. We drag our furniture into the basement each winter...not all of it but most. The heat is unbearable!

I am still chuckling about 5 stores and with just a wisk and card to show for it.
Wow, Textilene sounds indestructable. They probably don't use it anymore. Planned obsolence is the current trend.

Hindsight is 20/20. And yeah, I do the same thing. Sweltering is no fun! I wish we were flying south.

Did you check Target online? Also, you can clean up rust on metal framed chairs and spray paint them with an enamel and they look good as new (we've done this! LOL).

We got our Brown-Jordan set last fall. Two of those new stationary rocker... I'd say more like bouncers. And two regular... we need two more as the bouncers are shorter than I expected and really not conducive to eating out around the table. But, Stephen will be here in a week and we will see.

Our grass is horrid in this heat and I have tried everything. It started looking dry earlier last month and I increased the watering.. but just early in the morning. It didn't help and started to look like brown patch from too much water. So I've stopped as we were getting about an inch of rain a week. Now I have areas that are too wet and areas too dry and can't seem to get it right. I see the sprinkler/drainage guy in our future again.

We're looking at temps in the 90s over the next couple of days. I'm not much of a hot-weather person, so we tried the air-conditioning last night for the first time. Wow, house cooled down in about 10 minutes. I could get used to that in a big way.

I agree with previous comments about looking for those chairs online. Good luck with it!

Yike. This isn't a day to be running errands, Judy. *whew* Just stay inside ---under a fan--- and with something cold in your hand.

The heat is brutal, and it is only June. Have you tried Target online for the chairs? If you can get them and pick them up at the store there probably is no shipping charge.

I did try to find the chairs online, but they don't seem to be on the site at all.

I hear ya on the heat. Oh boy do I.

98??? I'm surprised you could move around at all let alone run all those errands...YIKES. Air conditioning...that's the key in that kind of weather...and if you have to run around....get out really early before those temps rise. More than anything...the humidity gets me. You are very brave....

That pretty warm, we'll have those temps soon!

I'm glad I'm not down south right now--it's not be oppressively hot up here.
