I'm Mad As Hell and I'm Not Going to Take It Anymore

Do you get constant requests for donations to charities? We do, and it's getting ridiculous. One came yesterday that said "a gentle reminder......" as though it was an overdue bill.

It read " Since we never heard back from you (last month) I'm sending a gentle reminder that your financial support is greatly needed."

The religious group that sent this letter often sends another request the very same day they receive your donation.

As of now, I'm putting them on notice: we will NOT give you any more money. I repeat: NO more!

The very nerve of suggesting that we forgot to send our donation last month. Plus, they not so subtly ask....." Are you enjoying the grocery list pad and recipe cards that I sent with last month's letter? As you use these springtime gifts, let them be a reminder that [we] keep you in our thoughts and prayers every day. " It is their attempt to put you on a guilt trip since you have not "paid" for your"gifts". They end by telling us we can donate online at their secure website. Yeah, right.

So......NO, we are not enjoying the grocery list pad or recipe cards, since we tossed your letter in the recycling bin without opening it because you ask for donations too often.

Okay, rant over.

Have you ever heard of BOOP?

I had not, but in the Mayo Clinic Newsletter online, it was mentioned in this week's offering. It pays to keep abreast of all the new illnesses, you know.....lol

I just had a conversation about this today...I swear...lol. One of these letters had "SECOND NOTICE" on the envelope, as of I was late in sending my overdue bill....!
HELP!
And YES, I get the "I hope you are enjoying the______fill in the blank, We Sent you....
It is really shameful. I threw out everything in my mail today. Every bloody thing!

Nothing worse than being blackmailed into giving money to charities. We give a great deal, but it's on our terms and to charities that we believe are worthwhile.

I reserve the right to support the charities of MY choice. I have regular ones and occasionally random ones and I don't take kindly to unsolicited bumf through the letter box.

I guess donations are down due to the recession but being "dunned" is a bit much. Wonder if they will ever employ collection agencies?
BOOP, gee just another thing that can go wrong.Yikes.

If you had not said this I was going to have to and you say it so much better. Recently I got caught up in a cause and sent them a $50 contribution. At this point they have spent at least that much or more in mailings to me. Basically I sent them enough to keep me in junk mail.

I don't give to people who beg like that either.

My mom's mailbox is full of donation requests. Sometimes up to five a day. She has started writing I AM NOT GIVING ANYMORE on the requests, and sending them back. We're waiting to see if that will work.

I have the same problem. I've even called and asked that they save money on the paper and mailing because I am not going to be able to contribute for at least 10 years and I might be dead by then. I am not very subtle when annoyed.

Yes, bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia... it's been around for at least 15 years... sort of a pathologic picture seen in several different situations rather than a single disease with a single cause.

We never get any of these requests from church groups... just animal charities, medical charities, veterans groups, fraternal order of police and firemen, etc. I think that once you give anything to a specific charity, you are on their list for life. It seems they spend a lot of money on the paper and postage to mail these requests that could be used for good elsewhere. Our church has several outreach charities and there is little overhead in them so that any money we give here goes directly to help the ones we are trying to help.

Good rant... But, lest we forget, these folks are keeping the US Mail in business! I read so few (that way I don't feel guilty) mostly they go straight into the round file and I support those groups and organizations that I have connections to

Oh, Ms Kenju, you have touched a sore spot. Yes, I know that some organizations are worthy of my support; but, they surely lose it by such high handed methods. I wonder how much the people who say, "Keep government out of it - let the volunteer agencies take care of it" (whatever "it" may be) enjoy the process of giving?

I am enjoying all of the address labels that several charities sent unsolicited, and I have not sent them a dime.

P.S. Let me hastily add that, as to BOOP, I did not invent "COP"!

I don't fall for the blackmail schemes anymore either. And once you donate one time, they will NEVER leave you alone. You'd think they'd have more money for the charity if they didn't send glossy bulk mail out all the time! Sheesh.

We STILL get charity CRAP like you do for my father in law who passed away in 2006....we had his address changed so we could pay bills and final arrangements. We also get address stickers, note pads, calendars and i even got a doggie blanket from THS. I keep them and don't feel the least bit guilty. A lot of the address labels have me called Ms. Rosema Luc-Ols. No guilt what-so-ever.

Alas Charities are eating the hands that feed them. Check this out: http://wisewebwoman.blogspot.com/2010/05/pink-me-stupid-redux.html

I hear ya on this one. When charities have to resort to harassment of those who can afford to be supportive, it's time to put them on notice.

Donation requests irk us also. Repeated over and over they waste a good deal of any contributions to the few charities we support.

The Salvation Army comes to mind.

You know what, I use those address labels, I didn't ask for them, but it seems wasteful to throw them away.I give my money to whom I choose, without expecting anything in return.

We are in the same boat as you, we get these things all the time and phone calls. We no longer give to the oragnizations that plague us with phone calls over and over, with sending the reminder letters or try to put guilt trips on us.
